I just couldn’t resist.

I have one of these EQ racks and just ordered a couple more. They are closing them out and knocked a hundred bucks off the price. They are really nice, sturdy, and I think pretty cool looking.

The Rosewood is really a nice wood and finish, only draw back is keeping the piano finish caps dust free.

The 230s look tempting, but... I can't do it. No need to get into it again, eh?
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 05:20 PM
Just courious about the comment about the 230s, what are those ?
Posted By: michael_d Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 06:00 PM
The piano finish looks pretty amazing.
Posted By: Ascension Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 06:05 PM
Great find there mdrew! I went ahead and ordered one. Those are nice looking racks.
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 07:41 PM

Posted By: Tharkun Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 08:09 PM
hehe....had guessed it was a typo and must be the 250s.
Posted By: FordPrefect Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 08:44 PM
this thread was soooo disappointing
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Nice rack…. - 02/12/06 08:46 PM
LOL .........................I won't ask what you were expecting.
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Nice rack…. - 02/13/06 02:39 AM
Would it help if I mentioned that Chinese crap like those stands cost the importer like $25? Selling direct from the land of forced labor and the home of the slave must equate to big profits for that wonderful chap I always see on AVS.
I wonder how he has time to post with those Ferraris sitting in front of his mansion.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Nice rack…. - 02/13/06 03:23 AM
Sorry, Mark. But I don't think you know what you are talking about. I didn't realize you were against a businessman making a profit. Sounds anti-capitalistic to me.
Posted By: Tharkun Re: Nice rack…. - 02/13/06 04:10 AM
To be honest, not really. Of couse if you know that to be factual in regaurds to AVS products, I would very much apperciate knowing where you found that information.
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Nice rack…. - 02/14/06 05:37 AM
There's a difference between state-capitalism and free enterprise.
The entire free world is losing mfg jobs to Asia, China in particular, due to the ridiculously obscene exploitation of the Chinese peasant and an utter disregard for the environment.
I am certainly not an "environmentalist", but it seems like clean air, clean water and healthy citizens should be somewhere on the gov'ts agenda.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Nice rack…. - 02/14/06 06:23 AM
Well you're speaking in generalities now. Your previous post was specifically about Mark, his company and its products. Unless you've personally inspected the stand in question, know the conditions at Mark's factory, and know what he pays his employees, you are basing your unfounded and unsubstantiated criticisms, and offensive implications of "slavery," on assumptions rather than on facts aren't you?

Posted By: pmbuko Re: Nice rack…. - 02/14/06 04:42 PM
What do you call that umption stuff that comes out of your ass? Oh yeah, assumption.
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Nice rack…. - 02/15/06 01:39 AM
Y'all crack me up.

I am, in fact, assuming that the stand is made in China. I am also assuming that at $100, the seller is still turning a profit. I am also assuming that it was produced in typical Chinese factories by typical Chinese workers.

I do not know the exact place of manufacture for that specific stand, the living and working conditions of the particular fellas involved in producing it, or the impact to the environment caused by the mineral extraction, fuel consumption, etc..., involved in its mfg.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure that my generalizations are likely correct - how else could it be sold at a profit for $100?

The stand I bought (also from China and similarly constructed) cost me $58 after a 10% mark up from wholesale. It likely cost the importer/wholesaler $25-40.

I erred in that purchase, in that the purchase did not properly reflect my values.

It's like how everybody thinks voting is important in general, but as specific individuals nobody thinks their single vote is important. Who is more correct, the voter who thinks about the implications of voting in general terms, or the one who thinks more specifically about the irrelevance of his single vote?

It seems our values and ideals frequently conflict with our circumstances. We pay lip service to our values, but compromise them when circumstances make adherence to those values difficult.

How about the Danish cartoon fiasco? People seem to be having a hard time reconciling events with their value system because it leads to a judgement which they find unpalatable.

>>How about the Danish cartoon fiasco? People seem to be having a hard time reconciling events with their value system because it leads to a judgement which they find unpalatable.

This one seems to be blown way out of proportion. Half the people are arguing about right of free speech, which should be preserved, but IMO there is an implied responsibility to avoid being offensive unless there is a REALLY REALLY good reason.

There is no legal problem with publishing those cartoons, but if they are clearly offensive to a significant segment of the population then maybe we should exercise a bit of judgement.

Having said that, publishing offensive cartoons does not give ANYONE the right to burn down buildings in retaliation. I don't have a problem with protests and only have a small problem with filing lawsuits to stop further publication, but that's where it has to end.

I do have a problem with the Danish cleric who padded out the cartoon collection with a few unpublished, but highly offensive cartoons before shopping them around the various Muslim centers. That was pure rabble-rousing and IMO not justified at all. I consider that not much different from "yelling FIRE in a crowded theater".

See how convoluted it is? Lots of ifs, buts and other qualifiers in that post.
Posted By: bridgman Re: Nice rack…. - 02/15/06 03:19 AM
Yeah, I guess...

... as soon as you get away from simplistic ideals the idea of "balance" starts to come in, and that makes everything difficult and weaselly
Posted By: michael_d Re: Nice rack…. - 02/15/06 05:42 PM
First off, it isn't a POS rack. I've already got one and it is nicely made. Not perfect by any stretch, but sturdy and good looking. Now it's on clearance and a pretty damn good deal, so posted a link in case anyone else may need one.

If I were to worry about slave labor and the environmental conditions related to my purchases, I'd have nothing. I'd have to live in the very far remote regions of this state on nothing but the land to get away from those concerns. So just get off my back with this bunny loving, tree hugging BS. Unless you peddle your ass back and forth to work in your grass hut office complex every day, make all your own clothing and weave the yarn to do that from your own flee infest sheep, you sir......are a hypocrite.

Why the hell does a simple post have to turn into a pissing contest around here anymore??? I'm about fed up with this crap.
Posted By: bridgman Re: Nice rack…. - 02/15/06 06:20 PM
Not me, Kemo Sabe...

I didn't call it a POS rack, and my only contribution to the pissing contest related to the Muslim community's reaction to those cartoons...

Amen!

Wasn't directed towards you bud. We're all good. When I'm pissed, which is a rarety, I react too quickly.

This is twice in the past two weeks that I've been pissed as a result of what is said on these boards. I've got enough stress and frustration in my life to have more from a damn on-line conversation with someone that I'll never meet in person.

I'm about done with these boards.
Posted By: bigwill2 Re: Nice rack…. - 02/15/06 08:16 PM
Did I call it a POS rack?
I am sorry if I offended anybody who owns a rack bought in China. I have one, I like it and I am a hypocrite for buying it for $58 rather than make one myself or spend a premium for a US-made rack (if there is such a thing).

Last years trade deficit with China was over $200 billion for the US - the biggest ever. We're blowing it. I apologize for assuaging my guilt by highlighting this problem.

Here's a mainstream article that shows how China has kept their currency artificially devalued relative to the dollar:

http://today.reuters.com/business/newsarticle.aspx?type=ousiv&storyID=2006-02-14T105109Z_01_PEK287178_RTRIDST_0_BUSINESSPRO-ECONOMY-CHINA-USA-DC.XML

Doing so maximizes their exports, maximizes their returns on US investments and ensures that their people are not able to purchase anything from us - or anybody else, for that matter.
That is not free trade, free enterprise, or capitalism - it looks more like economic warfare to me. People like us who buy those products in order to save some precious dollars are to blame. BUT AT LEAST IM NOT MAKING A PROFIT FROM UNDERMINING MY OWN COUNTRY. How one could laud individuals and companies that are is beyond me.

PS, I actually did spend $100 on materials from Home Depot to build my own rack for an upstairs bedroom and I also built my own QS8 stands. The former is definitely a POS, but the latter turned out pretty well.

Again, sorry to have personally offended you.

Going back a little ways:
In reply to:

I would have to answer no. Not at all.

Just an observation on my part........................but anyone notice how a simple post can have a comment made to put a twist on the topic so the topic turns to such nice controversial issues such as politics, religion, global economics, and so on. Also these topics can not be kept over in the Water Cooler, we must have them no matter where we post.

Gotta agree with the folks here, Mark.

Hey, I appreciate the original post. I ordered one for myself, and it should be here Fri.

So I thank you for your original post! Hope you decide to stick around.

Take care,

I just got my rack the other day. Very nice, heavy build to it. I like it! 5 times better than my older rack.
