I need to acquire a full 5.1 speaker system. I have read good things about the QS8s and am considering going with them. However, I am thinking about using another brand for my fronts and sub. Has anyone built similiar setup? Were you pleased with the results? Any potential issues that I need to be aware of?
A few years back while building up my Axiom speaker system, I managed to find myself with all Axioms across the front and some "brand X" direct radiating speakers as surrounds. While the X models had poly woofers and mylar tweeters VS the aluminum and titanium of the Axioms, the sound didn't come out all that bad!! You could tell the transitions from front to back weren't seamless, but if one didn't dwell upon it....!
.......ok, a Cessna single flying in from the back turned into a DC-3 when it got to the front, but that was an extreme example!
Thanks for the info...i am going back and forth with the fronts/sub...between Axiom and Aperion....
Troy, while you should be fine with the mix as long as all the fronts match, I had an Aperion and Axiom mix also, and while the Aperions are good sounding speakers, Imho they really don't sound near as good as the Axioms, the Aperions are now a 3 channel in the bedroom. You should be fine with any type of sub though.
Yeah, it was!.....and then Momma said: "turn down that sound!!"
And get that blasted airplane outta here, I said NO TWINS"!!
From what I have read, matching the rears or rear surrounds with the fronts and center is not especially critical. I had the JBL SAT20s for rears before I bought the QS8s. The biggest difference that I noticed was the better sound dispersion with the QS8s.
