Hi everybody. I think, but I don't know, that the M60s are probably the most popular and most complete speaker in the line up. I have been considering upgrading to towers, but I know I don't need to. Now, to my brass tack question. Many of the former M22 owners, now are the proud owners of M50s, M60s, M80s. WHY? Surely, you-all didn't buy bigger speakers just because you like big things. I mean what did the M60/M80s do for your system that the M22+sub couldn't?

Hey, some of us are quite happy with our M22s+sub!

Of course, if and when I move to a larger house, I foresee myself eyeing larger speakers simply because they are better suited to filling a greater area with sound. I also foresee myself putting those larger speakers in a dedicated area and possibly replacing the M22s with W22s somewhere in the main living area. My wife can be quite possessive of her floor space.

I went from M2s to M60s because the M2s (in a stereo configuration with sub) could not play at "loud rock music" levels without sounding congested. Not surprising given the size of the speaker.

With M60s I got essentially the same sound, but with the ability to play at significantly higher sound levels while maintaining that "clear and open" sound.

M22s would be somewhere in between, ie probably comfortable at any reasonable SPL in a moderate sized room, or for listening at moderate SPLs in a large room. If you want loud AND large room then you need bigger speakers.

The bigger box helps with the bass and makes 60s more satisfying standalone stereo speakers, but I think most people go to larger speaker models more for the additional drivers (really driver surface area), ie to get clear sound at high SPL.
