So I have decided to go with an Axiom 5.0 setup, and I know the center and rears I want, but I can't decide between the M50s and M60s. If I could get some of the expert advice here I would appriciate it. Some of my details:

Room is 20Wide x 13Deep x 7.5Tall (1950 cu.ft.)
I listen primarily to TV and movies (maybe 70% TV, 25% DVD, 5% music).
Receiver: Yamaha RX-V2600
Mains: M50s or M60s (this is what I want opinions on)
Center: VS100
Rears: QS8s

So, my quandry is:
Since I will be primarily using this for HT, I have read that there won't be a huge difference between M50s and M60s. I have also read that the M50s are more laid back, which I tend to enjoy more (but I have already read the M60v2s aren't nearly as bright anymore). Then again, since I have to get the VS100 center (space requirement in my entertainment center), the extra midrange from the M60s might be of more use than normal.

So in conclusion, please give me some advice

Thanks all.

Personally, I haven't ever heard either the 50's or 60's. However, my two cents would be that if you go with the 50's, the VP100 and M50 combo might be best. If you go with the 60's the VP150 and M50 combo might be best. Preferably, if there is a way that you can stay away from putting the center channel into an 'enclosed' entertainment unit, that might be your best bet. You might ruin the sound, from either of the center channel models -- and most will tell you the same.

Good luck with your choice, though.

Thanks for the response inthedeck. So you're saying that the VP100 matches the M50's better? If so that is good info to know.

If my center channel is in the entertainment unit, but at the front edge of said unit, how could it impair the sound? Doesn't the sound fire forward?

Don't quote me on that, but that is what 'I' believe to be true...given that I have never really heard the 50's, 60's, or the 100.

Here's an article, written by Alan (one of the Axiom residents, and a technical expert) that you should read...before putting a speaker inside an enclosed space -- Link to Guide

Also, you might try and use the little 'Home Theatre Wizard' which is above, in the hearder of the page. This will allow you to input many different combinations of music/movies, room space, etc. etc. to come up with a solution. It's not the end all be all, but it's quite handy, especially since it's geared towards specific preferences. Just a thought...

Thanks again for the info. The wizard doesn't work so well for me because it keep trying to give me a sub ;P

Put in my order for M50's, VS100, and QS8s last night! Woohoo, can't wait!

Great!

Factory order for discount?

Not a factory order, but I got a 5% discount because I ordered 5 pieces. I didn't really want the wait time the factory discount has I need some speakers!

Keep the windex and paper towels handy to clean the noseprints from the front window!

Cool...post pictures, once you get them.

And of course, if you 'need' to upgrade, in the future, at least you have 30 days to decide.

see ya.
