We've got two cats, M60s and an EP350 on the floor. For reasons I'll never understand they leave the speakers alone. Most of their action is confined to a scratching post and my knees .

Put an expensive leather couch in the same room as the speakers. I guarantee they'll go for that instead just so your wife can threaten to end one of their lives for them. At least the 24-lb racoon-cat hybrid acts like that.

Nothing actually animal proofs it although I've had limited luck with the furniture oil on veneer finishes. On the vinyl veneer of my EP500 they just leave it alone for some reason. The screens are another matter though - gotta leave them on to protect the cones but they get a trashing.

We went a step further and just put a door to our basement. No animals down there period. Now the cat is gone so it matters alot less, although when she was alive, she never touched the speakers.
Then there's a friend of mine, a vet, who has 2 cats and needs to put shock pads and sticky side up duct tape to keep them off his equipment.

My 4 cats don't even pay any attention at all to the speakers. I wouldn't stress about it. However, I'm not allowed to get Magnepans--my wife calls them cat scratching posts.

Not 100% sure but I think that Petco or some of the other large pet stores may sell a spray that you can shoot around the area you want them to avoid. I know they make the stuff for rabbits.

Thanks for the suggestion. We tried the Feliway hormone spray. Didn't make the behavior worse, but didn't seem to help either. It's also kind of expensive, so we gave up on it, but I think getting another bottle when the speakers are new couldn't hurt. Just got my surrounds and center, and picking up the sub and mains tonight. The high gloss cherry is a sweet finish. Aloha.
