ok, this doesn't necessarily fall under audio and equipment but it is definitely home theater. Are any of you using automated lighting control? If so, what are you using and what is your opinion of it?

Some of the choices out there are Lutron RadioRA, Insteon, Zwave, the older x-10, etc, etc....

I'm really looking for opinions on Lutron and Insteon.

Shag, does the home controlled lighting have to use the in-wall Cat5 wire or can an existing home without structured wiring (Cat5) be remotely controlled?

Upon completion (and ever since!) of our music room I've been kicking myself in the butt for not making all of the ceiling lights (recessed and on dimmers) hardwired and not remote ... I haven't researched anything because I was under the impression that there needed to be the wiring in the walls for it.

All the systems I have looked at are IR or RF so no wired solutions are needed. I not talking about a full home automation either. I just want to control a few light switches/dimmers (around 6 to 8) from my universal remote control.

Wow, that's really good to hear Shag ... I was under the impression that all of the remote lighting had to be hard-wired. Yep I'm only interested in our TV/music room with only about four dimmers, keep me posted if you don't mind and in the meantime I'll do a little researching myself.

Thanks Shag!
