I see lots of discussion about M22's. And I see lots of discussion about M60's and M80's. Why no love for the M50? Especially since it costs little more than M22's with stands.

Actually, there are many happy m50 owners on this forum, we call them the m50 posse. However, their long time CEO, Ken C., recently jumped ship to become an m80 member.

Love my 50's. Just love 'em. My kids listen to a lot of poorly mastered stuff, and I've never heard the 50's sound bad.

I'm really happy with my M50s also. They do great for classical and for movies, but my listening room is quite a ways toward the sucky side of normal, so they aren't living up to their full potential for serious music listening in more intimate venues.

In our old house our M3s worked beautifully and sounded great for all music styles, and they are very similar to the M50s in their presentation. If a person had a preference toward a slightly more laid-back, yes; and "pleasant" sound, the M50s are a good choice!

My 50s are not set up again (and may never be for critical listening), but I did enjoy them quite a lot while they were my primary speakers.

Damn you guys make me want to order some HG Cherry M50s for my studio....

I dunno Mark; but I would think that M50s would be a great choice for a studio, a work space or anywhere else where someone doesn't want to be totally distracted by the music! Maybe even better than the M3s!

Those M50s are always there and never give a bad note. They do a fabulous job of filling the room with tons of pleasant sounds but never draw attention to the warts in the recording. By the same token they don't necessarily draw you so deeply into the music that you're distracted from what you are trying to do.

I never really thought about it until I bought some better headphones. When I wore my less expensive Alessandro MS-1s I could sit and do stuff at the keyboard and pretty well pay attention to what I was doing. When I put on the MS2i all bets were off. I was locked into the tunes! Same thing with my Sennheiser HD600s. Nothing matters but the music.

Yeah; maybe M50s ARE better for a studio than M60s!

Just wondering how forgiving are the M50's? In my living room I will be sitting 9ft away from the centre of the tv. It's a 42inch LCD. I was thinking of setting them about a 1-2ft away from the tv. So about 7 or 8ft apart. Is this okay?
