To finish National Geek Week, it should also be noted that those of us that bought the original DVD release of FOTR can claim a $5 rebate. Add that to the $24.99 price at Best Buy and the free ticket to Twin Towers that comes with the movie, and the grand total is around $12.50 depending on typical movie tickets where you live.

In Canada, you're looking at 25 bucks, give or take. Sure, you can always save a buck at one place over another, but at 75-80 cents a litre for gas, we Canucks are probably better off just picking it up at the most convenient place.

On an up note, the video and sound on Clones are INCREDIBLE. One of the best DVDs I've heard...easily the #2 sounding DVD of the year after Fellowship of the Ring. The extras are also really cool if you have the patience for them.

On the down side, Clones does not translate that well to the small screen...not from a technical perspective, but on second viewing the first hour of the movie is a total mess.

And now that I've opened that can of worms, I'll crawl right under the nearest rock.

It was a mess on the big screen too.

Third that. Boring, poorly acted (Hayden Christensen merits particular mention), and with any sense of drama carefully removed. The fight scene with Yoda was laughably poor. Made me nostalgic for the good old days with Jar Jar Binks.

AMEN! Although, I thought the Yoda fight seen was much needed comic relief after drudging through all the uninspired parts up to that point. Makes me wish Lucas would release the first three (last three?), non-special edition, on DVD. Please, no more Jar-Jar!

Hi Semi, jazzdrummer, fhw, all,

I concur. I guess I can't officially participate in Geek Week because I don't know what FOTR stands for.

But I sat through a showing of " . . Clones" and wondered how actresses like Natalie Portman get cast. She was terrible, but the material was lousy as well. Granted, she's very pretty, but I watched her embarass herself onstage, summer of '01, struggling through a live production of "The Seagull," directed by Mike Nichols, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. She was terrible, and she was surrounded by pros like Meryl Streep, Christopher Walken, John Goodman, Philip Hoffman, etc., which only made her ineptness more obvious.

Regards,

Alan; FOTR = Fellowship of the Ring

Certainly, Portman is a bad actress (though admittedly drool worthy), but at this point I have to blame Lucas for the bad acting in Clones and Menace. Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson, two exceptional actors, both came off as stale, boring and wooden in Menace and Ewan continues this in Clones. The bratty kids in both movies were expecially painful to watch as well. Even Samuel L. Jackson's character was without personality, the only trait that particular actor seems capable of injecting into his roles. The best acting of the entire film was Yoda, a digital puppet.

Surely, Lucas deserves the blame for that.

Alan,

FOTR is Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Ring.
