My HT room has hard wood floors. So from day one I've used the rubber feet. The carpet spikes indluded with the M80's just look so lovely, I finally decided to do something about using them. So I purchased 8 of these vastly overpriced (like $1 each) chrome spike feet, so as to protect the floor.

I started with just the right speaker, and left the rubber feet on the left. A/Bing them with the balance reveals a nice bump in bass response. I was expecting *no* sonic improvement, as I just did this for cosmetic purposes.

Replaced the rubber feet on the other one, and think I'm getting the same little bump in bass response. Certainly not a HUGE change, but man, that's a nice little improvement in SQ for $12 worth of parts + shipping. My complete guess would be that the all-metal connection to the floor is transmitting more low-end frequencies than the rubber would, since rubber is usually an insulator.

Anyway, I'd encourage anyone with hard wood floors to at least root through your change bin and try the carpet spikes with some nickels or something! You might be surprised!

Hey Axiom, the carpet spikes are so nice, you ought to spend $.50 and throw in a few of these disks with all of your tower speakers! They look, and sound, great!

I snapped a couple of spikes when I was tipping my EP500 forward so I could see the amp to make adjustments. My bad for assuming they were as tough as they looked -- although I suppose that's quite a bit of shearing force for any relatively narrow hunk of metal to deal with. They broke right at the point where the threaded part meets the cone. I was able to extract the remaining threaded parts using a pair or pliers. Now that I no longer have carpet in my living room, I don't really want the spikes anyway, so I lucked out.

I snapped mine too on my EP600 right at the same spot.
