I was thinking of trying to add some height to my speaker stands that currently support my Qs4's. Has anyone ever attempted this? If anyone has any suggestions how to tackle this I would appreciate hearing them.
I think the simpliest way would be to build a slightly larger box for the stand to sit on top of, this way you can match the colors and it will look right and extra stable.
That's what I was thinking. I guess I was just looking for some direction as far as materials and if it needs to be weighted i order to improve the stability.
Are you using the Axiom stands or something else? I would just use cabinet grade Plywood of your choice and either stain it to match furniture, trim, or the stands. MDF could be used if you want to paint them. So far as stability goes as long as it is wider than it is high then it will be vary stable and the weight of the wood should be more than enough to keep from getting bumped over, especially if 3/4" is used. I would be more concerned about possibly mounting the stand to the box so the stand couldn't be knocked over unless the box is pushed over as well.
I am using the Axiom stands for the QS4's. I plan on drilling some holes in the plywood to allow the carpet spikes to fit through the holes to add some stability.
