My wife wants to have music available in the family room/kitchen and I'm thinking of just a 2ch setup with no sub. Are the M3's enough for this?
I have M22's with a sub and some QS8's and love them, but want to go with something smaller. Was thinking M2 or M3 on FMB's.
I would think the m3's would do a great job in the bass category for music listening in that environment without a sub.
I've got a pair of M3v2's (powered by an Onkyo A9555 integrated amp) in a large basement. They sound absolutely amazing without a sub. Pictures of my setup can be found on the Steve Hoffman Forums site. Will need to register (free) to view pics:

ctown,
the M3s are awesome speakers, I am using them in my studio downstairs for monitors...and I can walk upstairs to the kitchen, with fairly loud playback downstairs, and feel the low frequencies a bit (studio is right below the kitchen).
Previous to using them as monitors, I had them in the kitchen for a 2-channel setup, and the bass was prettttty good I must say. I wouldn't recommend the M2s, the M3s are slightly bigger and have a whole lot more bass output than the M2s....for kitchen use, I would recommend the M3s over the M22s as well.
Regarding mounting them...if cost is not an option, I would recommend the W3's instead of the M3s for the kitchen...the M3's on the FMB stick out REALLY far, and don't look that aesthetically pleasing. However, the W3s would look VERY slick in a kitchen environment. just my opinion though.
its all up to you tho!
M3s are perfect for that use. Don't hesitate.
I was really surprised how good they were without a sub. I owned M2s and M60s at the time and was able to A/B/C compare.
IMO M2s don't cut it without a sub for all music, but the M3s sounded mighty fine on their own. The only reason I don't own M3s today is that Axiom was clearing out their last M40s (think "M3 tower") at a great price so I grabbed the last pair of M40s instead. I would have been very happy with M3s, however.
M3s!
I own 3 pair. Great in the office and sunroom with no sub.
Go for the gusto, and get yourself a new Sub, The cdn dollar is doing well plus its been almost a year and then you could use the old one with the M2s.
I am still in the holding pattern for my new speakers but when I do get them the sub will still be in need with M22's upstairs.
We could always order 2 HSU subs next year and maybe save on the shipping if I can convince my sister to do another drive uphere from San Francisco.
