Hey guys, I am trading in my M3's for M50's and thinking about a VP100 but it may be a few months before I have rear speakers so should I bother with a center channel speaker until I have the rears? I watch some movies but mostly music and concert dvd's.
My advice is to put your money into a good investment and spring for a VP150 in 6 months.
I think getting rears first makes a lot of sense. I did that with my M50s and QS4s until my wife got tired of hearing dialog through the TV and bought a VP100.
ok, so them M2 with M50 or M3 with M50?
I'd go with the Qs if you can swing it (or be patient enough). They're really excellent surround speakers.
Mike, I thought that you'd decided to get M22s before, but anyway, as Ken suggested, surrounds will likely benefit you more than a center speaker since the mains can be used for a "phantom" center. For side surrounds it's strongly suggested that you consider the QS4s rather than any of the direct radiating speakers.
Hey JohnK, how in the world did you remember that I had decided on M22's before?? Well I had, and I got them but the stuff I listen to is mostly old and the M22's were a little too "revealing" for me so I decided to try the M3 and have really liked them. However I had wanted floorstanding speakers but my living arrangement at the time didnt really fit them (divorce/apartment). I have now bought a home again and have room for the bigger speakers but it is a rehab and I will only be there 2 years so I dont want to install the Qs4 speakers and I dont like how they look on the stands. So I am thinking M2 or M3 for now and move them to another room later when I move again. I think I remember reading on here that the M3 was a sonic match to the M50? By the way for any of you HK fans on here, I just bought an HK 645 refurb direct from HK on eBay for $405
Mike, as a proud M22 owner I was thrilled a couple years ago when you decided in favor of the M22s and it's something that would remain in my memory forever, but I'm crushed to learn of your change(just kidding).
Okay, if you use them as surrounds the sound characteristics of the M2s, which are very close to the M22s, won't matter as much. If in the future you move them to another room, possibly to serve as mains, then your comment about switching the M22s to the M3s would also apply, and if so it would be better to use M3s as surrounds now.
Man, that was seriously funny!!!!! Thanks for the advice, I think I will go with M50/M3 for now.
