I've just mounted my M2's which are acting as my rear surrounds. Unfortunately I'm waiting for my new Denon receiver to arrive and have no way of listening to them. Now as I look at what I've done, I keep second guessing my placement choice. My room is 162 inches wide. Currently I have the M2's ceiling mounted at 54 inches apart and 54 inches from the outer walls. They're angled down as much as possible and toed in about a half inch. They're about 5 feet from my listening position. The distance behind each speaker is only a couple inches from the rear wall because I'm trying to keep them as far back as possible. What do you think of this placement? Should I move the speakers closer together to get them away from the corners? Or should they be moved further apart? Would you keep them towed in, or mount them straight? The room is 13.5 feet wide and 19.5 deep.

You've done real good. I don't believe toe-in will make an audible difference on the rears.

I agree. The placement sounds perfect to me. You will have to play with toe in / down when you get them fired up. I had to 'aim' my M3's to my lounging position.

I think I would have mounted them exactly as you did. Toeing in and out should make up for any imbalance issues.

Here's some photos of the current placement. I reduced the angle-in a little. That's just fabric that's resting on the speakers. It'll get snugged-up when I wire them after I get my new receiver.

Bayne, they're too close together. You want to have a possibility of both a left rear and right rear effect with some material. Separate them at least 2' wider. Setting them vertically should also be better.

Aw maaaaaan! Now he won't sleep all night. You could have waited until morning .

Listen to them first, then get a couple of us to come over and hold them further apart and in different orientations. This may save you having to move them.

It will entirely depend on the width of his room. Perhaps those M2s are at the optimal position in regards to his seating area.

The M2s should be just fine. I do however agree with John's assessment about vertical vs horizontal...Vertical is always best for a speaker that is designed to go vertically...unless you got the ceiling mounting brackets from Axiom, in which case, vertically orientating those M2s would not be possible, and probably wouldn't make THAT much of a difference anyways.
