Greetings. Recently purchased 4 QS8's to serve as surrounds for my 7.1 set up and I have a question as far as mounting them. I originally bought 4 of the axiom ceiling mounts for the QS8's but when I took them out of the box and measured I am afraid that they will hang too low. Due to the height of the riser I am concerened about people knocking into them as them step on/off the riser. Basically I am looking to maximize the height available for safety reasons.

Yes, I know that flush ceiling mounting a QS8 is not the best thing to do accoustically but I am left with little choice. Due to room layout limitations the rear of the theater only has one wall. Mounting them on stands from the floor is not a viable option as that would also impeed traffic flow coming off the riser. This older photo may help explain my situation:
. What I really want to know is if there is a way to adapt the included flush wall mounting bracket for use on the ceiling? Attaching the bracket to the ceiling is no problem (thought ahead and placed blocking up there for this purpose) but how do I keep the speakers from sliding off the tabs?!

Really looking forward to getting these up so I can listen to some music while finishing up the theater/basement. The Bose iPod dock just isn't cutting it anymore! Thanks in advance.

I have a room that is 4,000 cubic feet and I can tell you that I don't think you need 7.1; 5.1 should do just fine. I even did testing (and there is a long post on this site somewhere) to prove it.

Look at Mojo's Dojo on Axiom's wall of fame. I did 7.1 and placed a ping pong table under a QS8. If you decide to do the same, you can justify a pong table that way.

Or, you can save your QS8 money and put it against an A1400 .

Alternately, you could mount the brackets on the ceiling, hang the qs8s from them, and then screw in something in front of them to hold them on the bracket.

I think flush mounting them would be a mistake and go against the whole purpose of the design.

Looks like I had a similar issue with my surrounds and have no problem. You don't have them right above the peoples heads do you above the riser? They should be spread out to the sides or behind of the seating area.

My Qs8's are mounted to the boxed in area that surrounds the heating/cooling ducts, and my riser is about 8"+ high and I have not issues. How low is your ceiling?

The QS8's would be mounted just to the sides and back of the riser seating. The only one I am really concerned about is the right mid surround. This would likely be directly in the path of the people exiting the riser. Well maybe not since the seating will come nearly flush with that side. Perhaps I will try and hang the brackets and if it doesn't work then I have some drywall repair work to do.

Well I finally decided to mount them on the brackets after all. The theater chair is deep enough to block traffic under the speaker. Seems to be working so far. Pic below:

That looks awesome! Just curious, how far back is the second row from the screen? From the picture it looks pretty far back? My screen is a 10ft wide 137" diag. 2.35 aspect ratio screen. My front row seating is 13ft back and the back row is on the riser behind that, about 15-16ft I'm guessing. Just looks like in the picture you might be back a bit far for that size screen?

Seating is roughly as follows depending on what chair you sit in (they will be in a curved configuration in both rows). The first row of seating is back roughly 12-13 feet while the second row is about 14-16 feet back. The picture does look deceiving. From the screen to the back edge of the riser is about 21 feet.

Sitting in the folding chairs at those above distances so far seems natural and not straining on the eyes.

Just wanted to report back and let everyone know that after about 6 months so far no one has had any issues with the QS8's hanging down from the ceiling. The theater chairs are in good position to naturally hinder foot traffic underneath the QS8's.

I did have a QS8 fall though. The bracket held tightly but the locking bolt ripped through the speaker housing. The wife found it dangling by the speaker wire one morning. Axiom honored their end and replaced it at no cost. It did however take two phone calls to get it shipped . Don't over tighten the bolts on the back!

Still looking awesome. I've been considering replacing my DIY brackets with the Axiom ceiling mounts, as this would allow me to slightly point the Q's downward and gain a little more room for the rears.

That looks amazing. I hope one day I have something that approaches that.

Mine still has a bit of exposed inner wall as I ignored it all summer but you have inspired me to start up again.

Awesome setup. I think we ended up with the same chairs... Are those the Berkline 004 models? It almost looks like we have the same color too, which is impressive considering they have about 100 different options. Either way, great looking room, I love the ceiling.

That setup is awesomely amazing. I love the accent lighting and the artwork in that little domed ceiling part, not to mention the pillows on the seats.

+1! Beautiful room! I like how it is not completely detached from the rest of the house, but still a clearly defined space.

Those are indeed the Berkline 45004's I've been really happy with them. Only problem that I've had was that two of the chairs were literally missing the buttkicker units that were supposed to be there and a third buttkicker was defective. This issue was corrected by Roman at Ultimate Home Entertainment without a hassle. The chairs themselves have been great though.

The ceiling above the HT, as well as our cafe area, were painted by a local mural artist. I highly recommend her work. Some other shots of her work.

Very neat concept.

Our artistic additions in the basement reno were similar, thinking that into the future we may tire of the look and would require more renos if something were built as a more permanent feature (e.g. you painted bricks on the walls rather than installing real brick).
Instead our artistic trim come from Inuit carvings, paintings, photos and prints which one can change around with room colors if boredom strikes you down.

I love the chairs and was torn between those and 'twosome' chaise loungers.
