Howdy all. Am I crazy or does passing my HD cable signal through my Onkyo SR805 degrade it some? I had the HDMI plugged directly into the back of my Panasonic TH-50PZ800U. Then I ran it through the receiver and it seemed that onscreen motion and action got a little fuzzy. Am I seeing things or could this happen? I haven't tried it with a Bluray yet will do so later tonight. Thanks in advance!

MCL I have noticed that with non-HD sources through my 605 it does a similar thing...just overall a little more fuzzy and not as good. I feel like I turned off the upconversion and ran component to the TV from my receiver and my wii looked better. I can imagine that it would be the same for a DVD player.

The reciever should pass that signal through without any degradation, perhaps you could try the pure audio setting on your reciever.

Mcl You can set up the Sr805 to pass through, check page 28&46
in your manual.Set the HDMI MONITOR setting to (no) and that should work.

Tried it, but then no signal was passed out the HDMI out to the TV so I had no picture.

Er... Set monitor out to NO terminates the link between your receiver and the TV... You definitely need to put it to ON or YES.
Have you checked the other HDMI features such as Control, color controls and lipsync? The 805 is a passthrough, but it also has features requiring your TV to support it.

So, I have my BluRay going through it with HDMI and my DirecTv going through it with optical cable, video going directly into the TV with HDMI. Everything seems to be working great now. Occasionally, people's lips don't match up with the sound through the DirecTv, but since it is not a constant thing I thought maybe it was a problem with the signal rather than the connections. Could this be?

You might want to add/remove some delays for the audio in the 805. Go to "Source Setup"/"Lipsync" (or something called close to that) and change the numbers until you feel it matches.

You are correct, if it is only on some channels it cannot be the connections, and if you google the topic you will find that this is a known issue with some but not all directv channels that is most likely going to take a while to resolve.

For example Channel A & E HD on Directv has a beautiful picture but the lips don't sync with the dialogue (almost a 1 sec delay?), I read that the problem is sometimes caused when excellent video images that take a while to process are transmitted but the engineers do not figure in an appropriate delay for the audio signal.

The only way to fix it is to add some delays channel by channel for the audio if there is a program you absolutely must see, or otherwise ignore it/skip the program until the directv engineers get their act together.
