M22 Inwall Setup:

Ok...moved into a new house, upgrading the speakers...wife wants in-walls. Went with the M150 Center, (2) Inwall M22 for the fronts, and (2) M2's for the Rears and I already have the HSU 10" Sub w/ bash amp (which is awesome). I plan to have this configured in a 5.1 set up for my family room, (This is not the dream theater that will eventually go in the basement). In addition I have two zones of distributed audio comming off of my recievers B-zone and split via a Russ sound SS-4.2 speaker switch/selector combined with your basic impedance matching speaker craft in wall volume controls. For the two zones (kitchen and dinning room) I am installing the Energy v.2CM's for the in-celing. Until I fork up the $$ for an amp, all will be feeding off of my Onkyo 602 Reciever. (not that it matters now, but considering the Emotiva line-up)

Has anyone hear these M22 and M2 in walls before? Am I going to be dissapointed with the range of these compared to my entry level POLK M50 towers, and M30 bookshelves?

Most importantly: how the hell should I trial these before cutting them into my wall? (I think I'd rather patch up the existing speaker wire that is hanging from the wall than the 10X18 hole that my new M22's will carve out; in the event that I am not happy with them) Any suggestions?

Also, Listening position is only 15 feet away from the fronts and center.
I can understand your concern, and have had the same thought. (there are two areas in my home I'd like to install the in-wall speakers)

I'd build a box and install them in / on it. Build it out of 2X4's, 16" wide, 24" high to mimic the stud space where you will need to mount them. Use some silicon and screw some thin plywood or other sheething over the studs. Then just hang them or support them at the approxitmate height off the floor where you plan to mount them.
I assume your saying W22's, not M22's installed in a wall, which would be a mistake with the rear port. The W22's are designed to have the same sonic ability as the m22's, which are highly regarded. Unless your room is HUGE and your listening to insane volumes, the W22's should do just fine.

Will they give you the same performance as a floorstanding tower, no, but if you have a sub and everything calibrated correctly, it should be fine.

Did you get the in wall m22's (they appear to be brand new) or the in/on wall w22's? I am considering them and they would be going into a large room (about 6000 cubic feet), so I am interested in your thoughts. As long as you have your sub and speakers calibrated, they should sound good (at high volume levels you would likely be able to tell a difference between floorstanders and the m22's imo)

Are you getting some?

it does beg the question of why they came out with these when they already had the w22's? Unless the w22's are going the way of the dodo bird?

I think these are for people who want an even more subtle install. I expect the W22s will remain.

Nope, I'm not getting some. I have a plethora of Axioms at the moment...

I'm just surprised that this is the first we've heard of them! Nothing in the latest Audiofile that I can see.

Seriously. Pretty personal, dude.

I'm allowed to get personal now that I'm in the top 5 for post count.
I was almost second guessing myself....but they are the M22
I got the M22's that are a sealed in-wall box with the baffle on the outside of the wall.
I will definitely let you know once I test them out. My room is pretty large: 15.5'x 20' with 18' cathedral ceilings....that puts it approx 5580 cubic feet. I think that I may build the demo wall before I carve these into my living space.
I made my last plea for another set of towers last night...alas no success:-0.

Kaplan - I am very interested to see how they work for you, as my room is 21x18 with 18 cathedral ceilings as well, so we are about the same size. What are you going to push them with?
Wow, I didn't realize these were available yet. Sine I have my speakers, I don't look at the product page much anymore. \:\)
Hmmm, an M22 "in-wall" speaker would imply a matching VP150 "in-wall" speaker forthcoming, would it not?

They've got the in cabinet VP150 listed. Maybe that's all there will be.
