ok, here's a question I've never seen asked...

The VP150 is 28" wide with the tweeters on each end. My Listening area is only 8' Wide. There would only be about 18" between a VP150 tweeter and the L or R Main. Would my Stereo imaging be adversely impacted?

I'm thinking that, since the upper range is directional and there is a tweet on each end... the "center" of my soundstage will be 28" wide and 25% of my soundstage.

Would I be better off with a VP100 with a Tweet dead center, or will the impact be inaudible?

Thanks

Most of the content comes from the midranges in the center of the speaker so I think you should be OK but your stereo imaging is already affected by the narrow placement of the mains to each other unless you are sitting that same distance away from them (the magic triangle). Don't get me wrong, you still have stereo imaging but it will be less than what it could be, IMO.

My experience supports what Jay is saying. For a few months before I moved I had my M22s and VP150 set up in my apartment bedroom with the M22s only about 5-6 feet apart sitting about the same distance away. Interestingly this was the best my VP150 ever sounded. For some reason in this arrangement it blended almost perfectly with my M22s.

Also, as Jay said it’s my experience that the midrange drivers have more impact on where the sound seems to be coming from than the tweeters.

Note that using a center speaker will likely change your stereo imaging since you will no longer be listening in stereo. My experience, even with 3 M80s across the front, lots of the 2/ch music I listen to still sounds better in stereo rather than using DSP to pull out a separate center channel. Generally the better mastered the 2/ch CD the better it sounds in stereo to me rather than with a center. Just my opinion though.

Cheers,
Dean

Heh heh, good point. I should have said "channel seperation" instead of "stereo". 90% of my systems play time is on Movies.

What I was meaning to get at was blending the sound *too much*. But, if you are correct and the mids have a greater impact on direction than the tweets, then I have a non-issue!

Side note, I know, I know! My room setup is less than ideal. The room i Approx 10x16 and unfortunately, my wife insists that we keep a Queen Size bed in there for her Parents when they come to visit.

Gah. I just spent 20min doing a room diagram in Excel and I can't embed an image here without posting it elsewhere... oh well. No room diagram for you!

Thanks guys
