Hi guys I haven't been really lucky with Axiom. LOL Soon after receiving my last M22 got to know that there is a manufacture mistake on it. Don't know if any of you guys have ever taken a look inside it's rear port. From what I could see there is some kind of acrylic covering the tweeter if there is no mistake on my judgement and one of the M22 came missing this and with wires exposed while the other 2 don't. After getting in touch with Axiom an offer has been laid down. They would send me 3 tweeters and 6 woofers to make it up for the screw up. Have been a bit confused since I thought they would offer me one new tweeter so I could change the one with different color and also to have my M22 fixed. Guess that they can't fix it. Do you guys think that this cover stuff would make any difference regarding sound matter? I have been reading a little about speaker manufacturing processes and if I am right the nowadays models are made in a way that they separate every component on it's own cabinet because of sound matters. Should I ask Axiom to fix it the right way my M22 or just accept their offer? That's my dilemma now. Thanks for all the help to come! smile

Not sure why you need 6 woofers and three tweeters, when you only need 1 tweeter replacement according to your post. If they want to send you six woofers and three tweeters at their cost then why not accept? Colour me confused however.

Good luck!

I would take their offer.
Posted By: Ichigo_Kurosaki Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 08:18 PM
I have been confused too. LOL The only thing I needed was 1 tweeter bright colored. Because of the thing missing and wires exposed they offered 2 more tweeters and 6 woofers. LOL I don't really think the screwed M22 sound too different from the others, but since I don't understand too much about speakers I thought, why not ask to the ones who do. So here I am.

My only concern was regarding losing sound quality because of the exposed wires and no acrylic cover behind the tweeter. What do you guys think, would it matter?
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 08:22 PM
I'm a little lost, since I've never looked inside of mine. How did you see this? Just by looking inside of the port? Did you use a flashlight and a mirror or something? or did you take the tweeter out?

I guess the tweeter is right in front of the port, isn't it? I'll have to wait until I get home and look inside of mine.

Just by looking. I compared the new one I got with the older ones I received first. I wasn't really looking for anything, as I was fooling around with my speakers and I saw that rear "hole" LOL just thought why not take a look inside? So when I did, could see some loose wires. To have a confirmation that this was a standard thing on the speakers decided to do a A/B comparison, realizing that there was something wrong with it.
Posted By: Ichigo_Kurosaki Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 08:34 PM
Behind the tweeter there is some transparent thing covering it's back and there is no showing of any wire on 2 of my M22. Maybe I should ask Alan in case any of you don't know if this thing might affect sound quality. As far as I know about manufacturing there is nothing there without a reason, even the smallest thing.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 08:38 PM
Have you tried it out to see if there is sound coming from all 3 speakers in the new M22?
Posted By: BlueJays1 Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 08:40 PM
I'm still lost. If one speaker is the problem, why not send you a single speaker or the replacements parts for just that one speaker?

Regarding sound coming out the answer is positive. I just want to make sure that there is no sound quality problem because of this matter. Guess that I should go for "if you can't hear any difference there is no problem" answer. smile

That is it! This is what I thought Axiom would offer me. So their answer made me confused also. LOL The problem is only on one speaker, the tweeter with dull color and this rear port thing. After contacting Axiom they made me this offer, lol.

Do you know if the dull colour tweeter is the "new" or "old" version?

Have been told by Axiom that both of them are the new one, but they started manufacturing it with bright color, according to them it was too bright ( what I definitely disagree), now they only manufacture the dull one. The good thing is that if you are on a little dark room they will all look the same(the dull one has it's bright on the dark) till you turn on the lights. LOL

Hi Dr. House,
The "v3" tweeter can be "dull" or "shinny". Both were used, lately, Axiom was manufacturing them with a dull finish because it was the preferred look for most of the people involved at Axiom.
Posted By: BlueJays1 Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 09:45 PM
I get it know Ichigo. It seems the "shinny" tweeters are not being manufactured anymore, so if you want all your tweeters to match you will have to swap out all 3 to the "dull" tweeters which they are planning on sending you? Otherwise if they are in stock, they can just send you one "shinny" tweeter to match your current M22's. I am not sure where the 6 woofers fall in place. You should ask if you have to swap those as well.

Yep that's it, but I have been offered 3 new shinny tweeters, lol. Initially have been told that they could send me 2 new dull tweeters, but taking in consideration the shinny one has caught my attention the most Axiom would make a shinny one for me. Which is great! My first post to them was regarding this matter. Right after that I realized that I had the other issue with the "acrylic" thing and wires going on and after e-mailing them they proposed to send me 3 new shinny tweeters and 6 woofers. LOL The main thing is that I wanted to know if any of you guys could tell me if this "acrylic" cover would made any difference on the sound or not. So in case the answer was negative I would accept their offer. Even though I wouldn't really know what to do with 3 tweeters and 6 woofers. ( could try to DIY some speaker, but guess that would be hard to do)

Sorry for not explaining as I should have.

Ichigo, I'm confused all over again. crazy

As to the acrylic question, you should talk to one of their engineers regarding this on how and if it would effect performance.

Cheers!

Let me start from square one. LOL Making a long story short, when I first received my M22 that was missing on my order after taking a look I realized that the tweeter color was different so e-mailed Axiom and have been offered to be sent 2 new dull tweeters. My reply to them was if there was any chance I could get just one shinny since I liked it best. While waiting for the answer, the second problem has been discovered, ( Acrylic cover missing on the back of the tweeter and the wires exposed) Another e-mail to Axiom and their reply was, " We can offer you 3 new shinny tweeters and 6 woofers, would you consider this offer?". So here I am trying to decide whether to accept it or not, although this offer has been a little strange to me though, since the answer expected by me would be that they could fix the M22 with the acrylic cover missing. Did you get what I mean? Sorry for the bad explanation.

Crystal clear. A stockpile of drivers isn't a bad thing unless storing them is a problem. At least you will be covered for any replacements in the future. You should accept this IMO.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 10:38 PM
I just looked in the port holes of both of my M22's and all I see are the metal plates that are the back side of the tweeters, and a little white fuzzy stuff just below them. Nothing acrylic or plastic and no wires.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 10:40 PM
Can you take a pic for us, Ichigo? We don't really have a clue what you're talking about, I don't think...
Posted By: Adrian Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 10:44 PM
Don't understand why woofer's became involved with a tweeter problem.
Posted By: fredk Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/10/10 11:00 PM
They were jealous. Woofers are like that.
Posted By: JohnK Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/11/10 01:58 AM
Ichigo, on my M22s the only thing visible through the port is the metal back plate of the tweeter. Every speaker of course has wires inside the enclosure leading from the crossover to the drivers, and I don't think that the exact location of them would affect the sound unless they were audibly vibrating against the metal. The exact reason for what you saw, if there is a reason and it wasn't just an assembly error, would be known only by Axiom.

As the doctor says accept the 9 spare drivers. Why is this even a question?

I could speculate as to why Axiom is offering to also send the midrange divers but then that would be silly when you are already in contact with them and can just ask them for yourself.

Hi Ichigo,

I think all of this confusion is due to what you are actually looking at, which is the back of the tweeter housing. Axiom has been using a plated metal can on the back of it's tweeters and recently changed over to a black plastic cup. There is no difference whatsoever between these tweeters, it's simply a running change which is invisible unless you're looking inside the speaker. If this bothers you I'm sure we can send you one tweeter with the metal can.

Hi Andrew thanks for the care. Sorry for the late reply but I had a problem with my computer and had to wait for some parts to arrive so I could fix it. As a matter of fact I just realized that there is no air coming out the rear port on the last M22 sent to me, so there is definitely something wrong with it. The woofer and the tweeters are all working but there is no airflow coming out at all. Thanks for your support!
Posted By: JohnK Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 03:33 AM
Very little air flow from the port is detectable except on loud bass passages. Are you sure that there's none at those times?
Posted By: Ichigo_Kurosaki Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 04:39 AM
The last M22 received has different airflow from the other 2. For that reason I suspect that the speaker has something wrong.
Posted By: pmbuko Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 04:51 AM
What do you mean by "different airflow"? You were able to feel puffs of air with the previous speakers but not with the latest one?
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 04:53 AM
Have you tried switching their positions? If you put the new one on the center channel, that may be why it's getting the most bass. Kick drums are usually mixed in the middle.

Try swapping the speakers around and see if the bass output follows the channel assignment or the speaker.
Posted By: Ichigo_Kurosaki Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 05:05 AM
The new one is already on the center channel and I have already switched positions and have had no change at all on the airflow.
Posted By: Ichigo_Kurosaki Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 05:07 AM
Sorry for my lack of explanation. That's exactly what you wrote. The airflow coming out are much less prominent on the new M22 than on the ones I got first.
Posted By: grunt Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 06:34 AM
I think the most important question to ask you is how the speakers sound in a normal listening position since most people don’t sit close enough behind them to gauge the air flowing from the ports. I’d say that if the drivers are all moving and the speakers sound good then there’s nothing wrong with them. wink

Posted By: Ken.C Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 03:45 PM
Yeah, I really think you're over-thinking this all. If they don't sound good, that's one thing, but if they don't blow air at your wall, who cares?
Posted By: sonicfox Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 03:58 PM
This might sound stupid, but could the speaker stuffing be affecting the airflow...like blocking the port? Anyhow, I agree with Ken...if the airflow isn't affecting the sound quality, I'm not sure you should be too concerned.
Posted By: CatBrat Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 04:01 PM
Wouldn't airflow through the ports be a requirement for extended bass? I haven't tried to feel the airflow on my bookshelf M22's, but I have felt the air flow on the on-wall M22's and it can be quite forceful.
Posted By: sonicfox Re: Help needed regarding my M22. - 08/24/10 07:22 PM
There are sealed speaker and sub designs. I'm not sure how they produce extended bass except using a lot of power. I can only assume though, that if a speaker wasn't designed that way, it must need sufficient airflow.
