Come on guys help him out. I am unfamiliar with Onkyo so I am not much help, other than to say Have you checked the manual? wink

Thanks , yes read the manual which is useless as usual and called Onkyo 3 times and there technical support is useless as well.

Whom ever i spoke with just seems to refer to the manual and does not seem to have proper knowledge of the product .

Are you sure it is not the Emo?

Depending where you bought the Onkyo, sometimes the dealer's are quite helpful. My local AVU dealer answered a lot of questions for me and provided some good advice on my Denon AVR and BD player I purchased from him.

Nope , not the Emo as it was working fine with my Yamaha .

Is the trigger voltage and polarity the same as the Yamaha? As I recall, there's something deep in the menus about the trigger, but the last Onk I touched was several years ago, and it wasn't mine.

What model Onkyo?
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/02/11 03:55 AM
Are you asking me or the OP?

If you are using back surrounds or zone two the trigger will not work. At least that's how the 707 is. I have to manually turn on my amp every time.

Rob, I have some personal experience with Onkyo receivers, but I don't use separate amplifiers and I've never really given much thought before about triggering one on. You don't give much detail beyond "is not working" (specifically what did you try?), but I assume you mean that Yamaha did trigger it on.

I took a look at the 808 manual and saw that there are trigger outs for Zone 2 and 3, but not specifically for the main room and there didn't appear to be any instructions(surprise)as to how to do it. Looking at pp. 70-73, it does indicate that when Zone 2 or 3 are turned on that the triggers are activated with 12v. It would seem that if Zone 2 or 3 was turned on with the remote, as indicated, and perhaps a source for it selected, that(despite the lack of any Zone 2 or 3 speakers)the XPA-3, if properly connected to the trigger out, would likewise turn on with the "phantom" Zone.

Rob, I know on my Integra I had to go into the settings menu and manually set the triggers "delay on" time and set up the "activities" you want the amps triggered on with. Just plugging in the cable will not cut it, not sure what steps you've taken???

I had the XPA3 with 808 as well, and have to turn on the amp everytime manually!

the 808 can only do the trigger for zone 2 & 3 but not for the main zone, very weird design of Onkyo....

if your not using 7.1 (meaning your running 5.1) you can turn on zone 2 (using the zone activation button on the remote)each time you turn the receiver on you will also have to use that button after (or before) you turn off the receivers power or zone 2 will stay active and the amp will stay on because the 12v trigger is still active. if your running a 7.1 system, you will have no other choice but to unplug the trigger and simply press the amp power button. when i had an 805 i had the same issue but there was a work around to that. the 805 had a switched receptacle that would power on and off when the receiver was turned on and off. i connected a 12v power supply to that and used a trigger cable from the 12v power supply and that's how i got my XPA-5 to work with the 805 and still maintained a 7.1 system. unfortunately, the 808 dosen't have a receptacle on it.

Thank for all your replies and even though im not happy about it and turning it on and off thru the remote every time will be too much of a pain so i guess ill just have to do it manually .

It will give you a jolt of energy as you engage! I always like turning the power on manually, at least once a day!

doing it manually is for me some exercise that's good for my health and longevity.

Thank you for the link , unfortunately the 808 does not have any AC outlets on the receiver .

How do you like the Integra which is basically a Denon isn't it?
Posted By: Wid Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/07/11 02:30 PM

Integra is high end Onkyo.
Posted By: PTPlayers Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/07/11 04:42 PM
Whoops , sorry , i meant Onkyo . grin
Posted By: Pitbull24 Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/09/11 03:27 AM
I am pleased with the Integra. Has all the features I wanted, and never struggled pushing M80's & vp180. I actually returned a denon product for the 50.1. No audible differences, but wanted pre outs and couple other bells n whistles.

When i solved the my issue with the Onkyo .

I took it back and bought a Anthem MRX500 and wow what a nice receiver.
Posted By: Pitbull24 Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/11/11 03:33 AM
That'll work too. Good choice.
Posted By: PTPlayers Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/11/11 01:35 PM
Ya so far im impressed .

Have to do the ARC set up tonight .
Posted By: PTPlayers Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/15/11 01:15 PM
If anyone is looking for a new receiver , i would highly recommend the Anthem brand .

My HT has never sounded so good and for all these years with the Yamaha and then the Onkyo for a couple of weeks the MRX500 blows them both out of the water .

Here is what the ARC can do and still have a bit of fine tuning

Nice results! That corrected response should improve speech intelligibility and male/female vocals dramatically. Improved natural sounding speech and vocals should be the easiest thing to notice and to test with source material between those curves (mains and centre).

Very nice indeed!!
Posted By: PTPlayers Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/16/11 12:09 PM
yes im very happy with it .

I reran ARC again last night with sub set to 16hz and the curve was even better and it also sounded better .
Posted By: jakewash Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/17/11 03:39 AM
I have my M80's and PB 13 Ultra set up with a 40hz XO and the sub set at 15hz tune and love the way it sounds.

Im sure , lucky dog having a Ultra .:-)

I am very curious to hear what the new sledge amps have done for it, if anything.
Posted By: PTPlayers Re: Onkyo 808 and Emo XPA-3 - 03/20/11 01:59 PM
I was thinking about buying a second sub with the first being a bash amp and was wondering how they will work together .

Also , a friend of mine read that there were some issues with the new sledge amps but did not elaborate .
