Axiom spkrs sharing the same technicals specs
whatever the version:
bookshelf, floorstanding,in wall, on wall, in/on wall, or cabinet.

but, i wonder if they sound the same ???

Does anyone find that different version of the same spkr sounds different ??? confused

... having in wall or on wall spkr, is a space compromise, but is it a hearing compromise too ???
In my opinion they sound different, but my listening comparision is limited to the M22 on-wall vs. bookshelf. I find the bookshelf has a much smoother and even sound, whereas I've experienced some harshness with the on-wall at some upper frequencies that was unpleasant to my ears with some recordings. I didn't experience this with the bookshelf. I can't speak for the in/on wall, or the cabinet. The in/on wall should be an improvement and the cabinet should sound the same as the bookshelf version.

But, then again, others have registered no complaints with the on-wall speakers. It might be that I'm one of the rare individuals that have both.
Ken is now the most experienced person on this topic. Hey, Ken, does it sound any different off the wall?
I'm told it has a lot of boom.
Yes the inwall vs onwall vs bookshelf all have a bit of a different sound to them, basically in the bass regions. This is due to cabinet size difference.
smile SirQuack , that's what i suspect about, the cabinet size diff.
I did some comparisons to my onwall v3's versus regular m22's v2's, and the highs/mids seemed similar. The regular M22's had better bass. With the crossover set correctly with a good sub, they both sounded good. My reg m22's sounded fuller, in my opinion.
That's about the same comparison I had, except around the female voice region of the on-wall M22 v2. It didn't bother me at first, but a visitor pointed it out to me one day that she didn't like the way it sounded (too bright), so then I did a lot of a/b testing with various material between on-wall and bookshelf and the bookshelf also had a smoother response in the upper regions as well.

Then with some later testing with a RC sound meter, I discovered that the on-wall had comb filtering problems, whereas the bookshelf did not. While playing a constant tone, I would slowly walk the sound meter across the room. With the on-wall, it would quickly fluctuate up and down. With the bookshelf, it remained steady.

I attribute these abnormalities possibly to the proximity of the speakers to the wall. With the wall interacting with the sound. I don't know how this might affect the in-cabinet or in-wall units.

It's possible some of these problems have been corrected with the v3 units.
