I have m50ti for fronts and QS4 for surrounds..currently using a VP100 for center. Is there any advantage, difference, etc in changing the center to a VP150..just wondering if this would be a good bang for the buck. Thanks
I had both those centers and the 150 does play a tad bit lower but it was only noticeable when A/B comparing, listening to each on its own I never could notice the difference, other than I felt male vocals played a little more naturally through the VP150, is it worth it; Only you can say.
Personally I would look at the VP160 for better bang for ~$100 more than the VP150, providing of course that you have room for something this big.

Do you mean VP180?
No, there's a new one coming out which is known as the VP160. It is supposed to be matched to the M60s, and Ian has implied there will be a center coming out that matches the M50s. I'd wait for that, if I were you.
Hmmm...currently what matches the M50. My M50's are probably at least 6-7 years old..is there any difference between them now and then.
Definitely. Are your M50s tis or v2s?
ti's..whats the difference
Not sure. I only have the M50tis, but my impression is that the v2/v3s are improved. However, I doubt the character of the speaker has changed, so it would probably be worth waiting for the M50 equivalent center channel to see if it's feasible for you.
I also used to have the M50/VP100/QS4 setup and it worked quite well. Never tried the 50s with a 150 (heck, I think I've only ever HEARD a 150 a few times, and that was with M60s.) That said, I don't feel like my VP100ti keeps up with my M80v2s or my QS8v2s, at least for music, so I've been toying with the idea of a VP150.
Ive read the center is the most important speaker...who knows everyone has an opinion
Meh. A lot of people say that. I listen to music far more critically than I listen to movies/TV, so my emphasis is on the R/L fronts.
Mine is mostly movies..I cant tell the difference..my ears are to old!
I traded my 150v2 for a 100v3 a year ago as our upstairs cabinet would not allow for the 150. I had the 150 down in the Plex before getting my 180. I think I like the sound of my new 100 over the 150, but then again, I never tried the 100 downstairs.
I have both the 100 and 150, both v2, in the in/on wall variety. I purchased the VP100 first. My impression of it was it's ok, but I always felt something was laking.
I also have 2 pairs of M22's for L/R mains. Click on the link in my signature line to see what I mean.
Music sounded much better in stereo mode. The VP100 just wasn't up to par with the M22's.
Later I replaced the VP100 with a VP150. At first comparison, it seemed that there was a small improvement over the low end. Now, when I A/B switch between stereo and surround when listening to music, the surround sound wins every time. I would not want to go back to the VP100. I think the 150 is a better sonic match with the M22's.
I plan on ordering the VP160, if I have enough money left after expenses this week before the 6th. I'm thinking I'll probably love them better than the VP150, sonic match or not.
Edit: I can always just not eat for the next 2 weeks. I need to lose some weight anyway. Pay bills? Puhfft. Speakers are more important that bills. Right? (Just kidding).
Ok thanks,,,how are they ordering the VP160 when I dont even see it listed under center speakers.
You can call in to pre-order. It's in the Axiom newsletter or in the Axiom Announcements forum.

I've never heard the vp-100. The VP150 is a very good speaker but I always felt that it came up a little short compared to my m80's. This problem is absolutely 100% solved with the vp180.

But only if you have the space, the thing is a beast of a center (in a good way). When I ordered my Axioms I would have loved to get the 180. Problem was there was no way it would fit into our entertainment cabinet.
Maybe check to see if the 160 will fit?
It will, but the Resident Financial Minister (read wife) didn't take well to the idea of upgrading seeing as I 'only got this one a little more than a year ago'. I'd love to jump on the intro $ but looks like I'll have to give it a little more time.
