Just wondering if anyone has done this ?
Can you hang the m22,V3 from the ceiling or top of the wall to get your rears rather than the Qs8,s ?

I beleive it can be done but will Two M22,s produce a better set of rear channels in comparison to the Qs8,s
I know Axiom makes brackets for the M22,s and I have seen in the forums that they match up fairly well with the M60,s up front .
My plan is M60 left M60 right VP160 for center Qs8,s for the sides and M22,s for the rears . I would go with the recomended Qs8,s as rear channels but I have a lot of room to fill and want it loud .

IMO just get M2's for the rears. I don't think the M22's would be worth it for that function. Plus the M2 would be easier to mount.

One thing I never thought about was how often the rear channels are driven .Can I not drive them all the time or do I have to rely on the original source media ? I was hoping for reference levels from the rear . Maybe I do need a bigger amp . Sorry guys ...Newbie question here

Personally, each channel of amplification that i have in my HT system is between 500W and 600W @ 4ohms. However, this may be a little bit of over kill...

If you have PLIIZ Movie and/or Music activated all the time you will always get sound out of the rears. Also, if your AVR has a 7 channel stereo effect, the sound will come out of the rears as well. In any case, all these surround effects will be activated regardless of the source material.

Cruncher, as casey pointed out, if you use a mode such as DPLIIx, it extracts ambience from the front channels which originally came from directions other than the front and sends it to the side and back surrounds. So yes, in a mode like that the surrounds work all the time.

As to sound level, very few would listen at "reference" as a standard procedure. For listening at home it's simply too loud, and a setting 10dB or so lower is commonly used. Whatever the level of the mains, the level in the surrounds when using an ambience extraction mode such as DPLIIx is somewhat lower, since the greater distance and reflections involved in that sound lowers its level.

To Johns point, i usually listen to my system at 12-20, "Reference" level on my system is 31.. some times up to 20 when watching movies, at 20 you can hear explosions 5 feet outside of the house with all of the doors and windows closed... I have never listened to my system at the reference level, at about 20 the SLP in my room is 80-100db... depending on material.... So, reference would be over 100DB... Again my room is 2,400cu/ft essentially the same size as your room.


The reason i have the power that i do, is due to my my room size.. My previous amp was 135W @8ohm's, it was a Marantz mm9000, i really like the amp (it now powers my bed room speakers) it just doesn't have enough power for my family room. Several movies were driving a couple of the channels into clipping; which was indicated by the clipping led's lighting up like a xmass tree...

I wouldn't worry about a magical "reference" number... buy your speakers, and see if the gear you currently have works the way YOU want it to.. Then, if you perceive the need for more power, then buy more (or, if you want a couple big amps in the room, well that's fine also ).. But, don't spend extra money due to random stuff you read on the interweb...

As to your original question, call axiom. Brent should know if anyone has done what you are trying to do, or he will give you a better/more cost effective alternative.

My amp is just a tiny Yammy @ 90 per channel . Just an entry level AVR so I could watch 3D movies on my projector .
I am on the hunt for a better AVR and the addition of a couple pre amps .
I am going to try my older amp this weekend.. Onkyo @ 130 / channel

If you can run a direct radiating speaker for the rear channels I would suggest getting the M2 instead of the M22 unless the plan is to listen to a lot of music. There is very little difference from the M2 to the M22 except a little lower FR and power handling. The M2 is easier/lighter/smaller for wall mounting but if you still plan on the M22 Axiom's wall mount works very well with all their speakers.
