I hope one of you guys can help me. I installed a Roku 3 where my DVD player was. Simply plugged it into the HDMI cable that was already feeding the oppo DVD into my Denon 1712. Could not get a surround signal to the Denon, only stereo. After playing around for awhile I did a factory reset on Roku and then it started locking up. I returned it to BB and got another one. Plugged it in and still no surround sound. My Denon says HDMI..Auto..Stereo. Netflix streams DD+ the Denon 1712 does play DD+ and Netflix plays fine when being fed to the Denon from my Samsung Blu Ray.

have you tried the exact same video on both devices the Roku, and the Blu Ray player?

Some of the content that Netflix streams is only in stereo, make sure your streaming video that has 5.1+ audio.

I seem to remember my blu ray player not always streaming 5.1 from netflix depending on what i was watching.

Thanks for the reply, maybe not, I was using sky fall just because it's fairly new but maybe I am assuming its 5.1... I will check

Yep, because of the variance in ages of titles they have in their libraries soundtracks will vary as well. I watched one movie the other night in DD+ and last night there was one showing a "PCM" decoding. I have a "top of the line" Yamaha CX-A5000 Pre-Pro and Oppo BDP 105 so decoding, as with all others, is automatic so what Netflix sends you is what you get.

I might recommend setting the AVR, if possible, to a permanent DPL2X "Movie" setting to make sure most of the movies are decoded in at least 5.1 or if applicable, 7.1 audio.

Of course, unlike Blu-Ray discs, one will never get lossless audio from Netflix, at least not yet anyway.

Yea, it's definitely not a replacement for my Blu Ray rentals but it's a good filler. I like that idea of setting the AVR to Prologic, I think I'll go ahead and do that. The Skyfall movie really threw me, I never thought they wouldn't be sending that out in DD.
