Trying to decide if I want to upgrade M60's V3. I should have probably purchased the M80's in the first place! Now I have the amps to push the larger speakers worried about the 4ohm issue at the time. I would like to sell my m60's V3 which I purchased in the outlet store any ideas. Will it be worth my effort to go to the M80's or m100's big price increase over the m80's? Trying to get the most for dollar value. Thanks Greg

What is it about the 60's you are hoping to improve upon?

If you do upgrade, do it soon! Prices go up in March, to reflect increased costs of the V4 parts.

Depends alot on what you're goals are, really.

Greg, you've had the M60s less than a year and said you were happy when you got them. What kind of sub are you running? What's your receiver/amp and how are your crossover's and room correction set? Why upgrade so soon? Just trying to help.

I sat and listened to my V2 60's last night. Happy as a clam.

Seen the rather large price increase on the M80's Bill and started to think,I should not think. Running an Onkyo818 with a emotiva XPA5 gen2 and a XPA2 gen2 on the M60's. I have an EP500 sub maybe another sub or some front high speakers would be a better option. Amazing what a nights sleep can do.

So many things to consider here. As much as i also like the idea of hearing and trying out the M100s, i know that our present room is just too small for that size a speaker.
It is hard enough to get a proper stereo image because of spacing so getting something bigger doesn't make any sense, for that room.

As previously mentioned by others, what are you trying to improve or what is your goal with the idea of going for M80s or 100s (and i am purposely NOT using the term "upgrade" here).

I think you also have a VP160 and QS8s right? I'm so jealous of your setup now including the 818 with Audyssey MultEQ XT32. Your XPAs should drive your speakers as loud as you could want. Perhaps another high end sub would be a good idea???

Yes I have a 160 and Qs8's. I will go with front highs next it has been suggested the QS4's or QS8's. The system sounds great. I finished my audio rack so I guess I am just board. For now everyone has convinced me to stay with the M60's the room is under 2,000 cubic feet.
Greg, I am using some M2's for front wides provided by audyssey dsx and it works fantastic it is a very noticeable improvement. I originally had just M2's and 2X8" subs and my QS4's and I got M80's and the difference was no where near what I was expecting. with that said I would not worry about going to M80's from M60's unless you have a really large room. I may try front height's at some point but I don't really believe it will add as much to the experience as front wides do. I look forward to hearing your feedback once you make the change.

Made up my mind M3's on stands as front wides the easiest to introduce to my room.
Win Win, you get retail therapy and an improvement to your home theater, congrats. smile

The M3's are now installed and I am quite happy with the improvement. My next upgrade will be some acoustic panels, DIY for sure.

I thought I'd piggy back on this thread rather than start a new one. Here's my story. I am contemplating upgrading from my M60's to M80 or the M100's. Reason being, my M60's are 10 years old...they still work great / look great...just have a case of upgraditis. Wondering if I should or just take some meds till the feeling passes.

Seriously though, wondering if I should just stick w/ the M60's w/ my current listening habits (will get into later). Would moving to the current V4 M60 benefit me at all or while I am at it, just go w/ the M80 or M100?

Current 5.2 setup.

Fronts M60's (10 years old, think V2, maybe even V1)
Center VP180 (3 years old, think V1)
Rears QS8's (10 years olf, think V2, maybe V1)
Dual Subs SVS PC13 Ultras

Receiver Onkyo TXNR-801 (no seperate Amp)

Listening Habits 80% Action movies, 10% Concert Movies, 10% Music

SO, reason i am thinking, just cause there's been so many changes to the M60's in last 10 years.

Question 1. Would going to current version of M60 be a noticeable audible differnce?

Question 2. if I am upgrading, should I just step up to the M80?

Question 3. With my dual sub setup, no external amps, and listening habits of mine being mainly movies, would going to the M80's benefit me at all?

Any / all opinions welcomed.

The trade in program, after subtracting shipping / packing materials needed, I'd get $390 for my 10 year old speakers. Pretty good in my opinion.

I think it sounds like upgraditis and little more. Do you find that the sound in your action movies feels thin and lacking in dynamics? From my experience, an action movie is more about the sub and it's integration with the lower mids, and the speakers you have now should be more than up to the job.

If you were wanting more music listening, then getting into a newer M80 or M100 will give you a large dynamic range and sound stage for music from just 2 speakers. But you are working with 6 speakers already so sound stage is not an issue.

Are you asking will it be better? or do you want to know if you will be getting value for your money in the side or performance enhancement to dollars spent? They are two totally different questions.

I love getting new gear, but I hate spending money to get little for it, and I think that is what you'd get. It will be better, but not a jaw drop to the floor jump.

I, on the other hand, can find that small tweaks can make a big difference. If you can afford an upgrade, I'd at least try it. M100's if you can afford it. But, then again, that's just me.

Based on my experience, upgrading to the M100's without an external amp would likely be overkill. I would, however, consider moving up to something in the v4 series for the improved tweeters. I wouldn't recommend going with anything above the standard version of the M80 though. Any Axiom speakers with the HP woofers are overkill without an external amp, in my opinion.
