Hell Axiom.
I own a pair of M3v3 for about 5 months now and I am very happy with them. However I would like to upgrade in the goal to get a little more bass and presence out of my speakers. I have a large lounge which is all open to the kitchen and the dining room (I live in a condo). My system is also use for movies and games

I am thinking about two options:

1- I keep the M3 and I add a subwoofer (The little EP125v4). This way I can control the level of bass, efficient for movies and could definitely add more presence but could be tricky for placement.
2- I trade the M3 for the M50v4. It also gives me the new tweeter.

As you can notice I do not have an unlimited budget but I think either of these options could give me what I am looking for.

Thanks

EP125 I think is a little on the small end, if you can spend a bit more I would go with atleast go with the EP175

EP350 or 400(depending on how big a sub you can use) . The 175 is just not enough for movies. Trust me on this. I was absolutely astounded at how much a proper sub, one that can reach ~20Hz, adds to the movie experience.

A Balrog would be a sad, muted creature on an EP175.

From my experience, you will not lose anything in the treble and mid range, and will gain much more bass with a sub over a floor-standing speaker.

Definitely go with a sub or two...

Another vote for the sub that is reasonably sized for your large room.

I recognize you are dealing with neighbors but 'a sub too small' (the title of Negative Orange's new acoustic album) will be disappointing and you may find yourself trying to turn it up too high and getting a more rattle sounding experience instead of smooth bass and LFE. At first the rattle sounds impressive, then you realize it's not a natural sound and it becomes annoying.

As the OP said in his opening statement:

"As you can notice I do not have an unlimited budget but I think either of these options could give me what I am looking for."

Given the upgrade in speakers was around $500 and the EP125 is around $500, I figured he had about $500 give or take maybe $100. Not $800.

which is why I said, if you can gather an extra $100 go for the EP175. I think most people think the EP125 is only good for closets.
I had a EP125 quite a few years ago and was surprised actually just how better it was than one might think. So, what it is an 8" driver.
For $500 it is not that bad, if your not into watching movies at a above avg volumn. It will give the M22 more bass. I would not want to turn it up, though. If you watching tv or listening to music at say a person does at a volumn level when speaking then hell yeh, it will surfice, a EP175 wouod be better. And yeh, heck A EP350 would be greatly improved. I don't know about the EP400 as most will say it's only a 8" driver. But as far as I am concerned an normal guy That EP400 would sound awesome.
Why the heack would Kreisel, who is the man that invented Satelite/SUb combos use a dual 8" driver in his new line up if it wasn't good. M&K speakers !! used in alot of mixing studios for music and movies as reference speakers when doing sound. I would think he knows a bit about subs.

Another and although the use 3 - 8" drivers and have rave reviews is Paradigm and Martin Logan Depth subs.

I would think if you not going to be raising the volumn higher than maybe th db lev of some one shouting the Ep125 givin your sitting at probably 10 ft away will give the bass you need, the EP175 would be an improvment. The EP350 well look at it, but I don't think you are planning on spending $900 by the time you add taxes. And pretty well sure $1500 on a EP400 is out of the talk, if not may as well go with the EP500 at the same cost.

anyways, my two cents worth ... it is easy to say get the EP350 with some one else's money. Heck I want a EP800 and two EP500 for my 11x21 room, but probably wouldn't notice the difference with two EP500

If $500 is the budget there are many compelling options. Pb-1000?

Just because the drivers are the same size doesn't mean speakers are similarly good.

I'd also suggest a sub big enough to matter. Given the description of the room, I just don't think anything less than an EP350 is going to be very satisfying. Other brands (or used?) might be good options if that model doesn't fit the budget or you can't wait to increase the budget. I can never keep track of Canadian availability/pricing for brands like SVS and Hsu.

Yes the budget is about 500$ or so. I know the EP175 would be a better improvement and so on. However, my goal isn’t to rock the house at concert level but simply adding some presence in the bass which could fill the room. My concern over the tower would be the placement. With the crossover set at 80 Hz, I would definitely hear it from where it sounds instead of an EP 400 which I could set the crossover lower. But this one is indeed out of my price range. So this is where the M50 becomes very interesting. I might also call Axiom for advice.

Btw thank you helping me spending my money, always appreciated smile

According to Andrew from the Subwoofer V4 thread :

you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between an EP175v3 and an EP125v4!

I think I am decided smile

Add the sub, I had m2's with a 8 inch sub and it did quite well. Placement is important to get the full potential.

there ya go,
an as another said, on concrete floors probably better off with a sub or an upgrade to M50's
