presently have a single cd player which the wife wants to replace with a multi disc player, so i thought, why not invest in a multi-disc dvd player. tweeter has a kenwood dv-5700 5 disc player 2 weeks old traded in that they would sell for $500.00. then i started to think about trading up to yammi rx-v2400 from the rxv-1300. my 1300 is worth $500.00 towards the 2400, so the net on the 2400 would be $500.00. am i nuts? opinions on both items i'm considering please.
thanks
dan

Why would you ever need to have multiple DVD's in the player at once?

If it were me, I'd stick with a multi-disc CD player.

How else would you be able to host a Lord of the Rings marathon without having to swap discs?

Kids...(this was supposed to answer spiff's ? of why a multi disc dvd player would be needed)

You can't. But in cases like that...god forbid...you'd have to get up of yer ass after the first 3 hours were over, and change the disc.

You should need a bathroom break by then anyway! LOL

You're so right. I have to start thinking like a parent -- my first is due on Thanksgiving. I'll have to work on his motor skills so he can swap my DVDs ASAP.

That makes twodan one of the oldest kid here...isn't he 53.

That's a good idea. Hook him up to one of those retractable leashes. When the disc needs changing, just give him a push off the couch.

Are you guys talking bondage gear again?

Again? This is the first time I've seen mention of it.

Unless of course you're talking about snake oil...

Dan, definitely yes on the multi-disc CD player, indifferent as to whether DVDs too. I'd suggest a mega changer holding a whole lot more than 5, however. Also like the new features on the Yamaha 2400 and 1400.

My brother is going to be getting the Pioneer Elite 300 cd changer. Seems like a good idea to me!

thought i would use the dvd player to do double duty as the cd & dvd player. my dvd player is a non-progressive model, and since my wife wanted a multiple cd player, it would replace both. not a good idea?

saturn, memory like a magnet, i am 53.

It's a great idea. I have the Panasonic CP-72.

Good idea, Dan, especially since your current DVD player isn't progressive scan. For a progressive scan 300 disc CD/DVD changer consider the Sony DVP-CX875(around $350 here ).

I just swapped a nearly new NAD T571 progressive scan 5 dvd/hdcd changer and a pioneer elite PD-F07 100 cd changer for the Sony DVP-CX875. Bought it new on ebay from Sunshine Electronics for $360 delivered. Lot of these for sale new from dealers on ebay at lower prices than I could find online elsewhere.

I don't hear any difference in sound. I doubt I'll ever have to look for more space. It is a bit complicated to learn to operate fully. You need to enter all your disc's in the menu via a keyboard. You can then select disc by viewing the files a the tv screen. A little time consuming but more convenient that racks of dics. The sony has more video processing options than The NAD did. I'm happy I made the change. Happy to have one less component.

I thought the same thing. Then I started aquireing DVDs rather than just renting them. I got tired of all the cases lying around and the 10 year old leaving discs out to be scratched. Not that much differnce in price now between the dvd/cd changer and the cd changer.

Do you do "time outs" for that or is he/she old enough to be grounded?
went to another tweeter yesterday and asked what they had in trade up models of dvd & cd players. the wife just wanted a 5 disc changer, enought said? so after looking at the trades, settled on a new yammi cdc685 changer. then since she got a new cd player, i thought it was only fair that i got a new cd player. i chose a mits dd8040; is progressive and dvd-a. both for about 5 bills. then came the cables. since the mits has 6 channel out, three pair of monsters were suggested. i played dumb, which wasn't hard, and asked why they were so $$$. he explained that the copper strands were twisted in a special way, and the cables were directional. holy smokes i replied, i hope i ran my speaker wires correctly and not backwards. he smiled.
1st impression of the dvd player when switched to progressive mode, playing lotr on our plasma was my wife saying that it really looks like the movies now! now the cd player and avr, both yammies, i thought the remote issue was a non-issue. wrong. i could get the cd player programmed into the avr remote, and function until i left the set up mode, and the avr remote would not learn the cd remotes commands, nor will either remote power up the cd player. oh well, we both almost got what we wanted. then my sister in-law popped in, and i promptly sold my old dvd player for $50.00, which can be put towards the new cables.
any tips on the programming of the cd remote on the rxv1300?
thanks
dan
Just a couple of brief suggestions:
1. Go to BestPriceAudioVideo.com and you will find 1 meter coax cable for $3 US. 6=$18 US
2. Go to Surfremote.com or Bluedo.com and take a long look at the Home Theater Master MX-500 for about $98 US plus shipping. I went from 5 remotes to 1. It does everything. IMHO
maybe i'm confused. do i want coax cables for the 6 channel output/input or are they rca cables? do i then need to program the rxv1300, or just select the 6 channel input button? thanks for the tip on the remote.
dan
Sadly I know nothing about your AVR, I have the HK-525. I normally use the DVD player with a digital audio out to the reciever. When I listen to DVD-A I have to change the audio output to the 6 channel setting in both the AVR and the DVD. All of this is quite painless with the new remote...At least I do not have to hunt around for the DVD remote and then the AVR remote...ect.
I believe that they are coax cables with RCA connectors...
ahhh, rca connectors explains it. thanx
dan
Use analog RCA cables, the same kind you'd use to connect an analog stereo component to your receiver.
digital coax cables will not work???
Sure they'll work, but you'll pay more for them, when their benefits are, well, less than agreed upon. Besides, the 6 channel is analog.
At $3 US per cable I do not feel to bad about my mistake...
Dat'sa pretty good!
