Hi All,
I just joined and wanted to ask the advice of some Axiom owners on this issue. I ordered M22's, VP150, and QS8's. They will be here on Tuesday. My question is this:
Will i be able to get good volume levels(close to or at reference level) with the M22's up front? Here is my sroom size and setup.
Room dimensions are 23x13x9ft ceilings. I would note that the room is a combo living room/dining room. The actual size of the HT is 11x13. I will be sitting approx. 8 ft from front speakers.
My Equipment:
Yamaha 1400(1300 being exchanged for the 1400 on Tuesday)
B&K AV5000 series II amp (125x5 @8ohms)
M22's - Fronts
VP150 - center
QS8's - Surrounds
Klipsch quintets - back surrounds mounted on ceiling beam pointing down toward the listening area.Eventually to be replaced by M3's or QS4's.
SVS 20-39 PC+ - Sub(awesome sub BTW)
I will most likely have the sub x-over at 80 or 100hz. Will the M22's be up to the task? I'm figuring that being crossed over at 80 or 100 will take a good load off of the 22's. Is this assumption correct? Any suggestions/comments welcome. I wanted the M60's but i really can't come up with the extra $400 right now and with a baby due in January i can't see being able to get them anytime soon.

Thanks,
Dalton

The M22's should work very nicely. Yeah, the M60's are better, but like you pointed out, they're $400 more expensive.

You should be very happy with the M22's.

As far as the rear channels go, I'd go with the QS4's or M2i's, rather than the M3ti. The QS4's will of course disperse the sound better, but if you want a direct radiating rear, the M2i will sonically match the M22's better than the M3ti's.

So i should be able to get good volume levels for HT with the 22's?
Thanks

Hi Dalton,

I've got a pair of M22s in my home theater, and they are capable of blowing my eardrums away without distorting. My room is smaller than yours (12'x13'x8') and I sit about 9 feet away from the speakers, but I have no doubt that these beasts can fill your room with sound louder than you can bear -- especially with than new Yammi 1400.

I'd like to hear your review of the 1400 after you spend some time with it. I wonder if it's time to retire my 1300 to the bedroom.

Dalton in your size room and especially only 8 feet away the M22s should have plenty of volume. Use an 80hz crossover.

Well I set up the speakers and ran the YPAO auto calibration on the Yamaha 1400(using it as a processor with a B&K amp). WOW! The Axioms are excellent! I was a big Klipsch lover but recently wanted to try something new. I never thought these Axioms could surpass the Klipsch Reference series for detail and imaging but they do. I was a big believer in direct radiators for the surrounds so i had some doubts about the QS8's but man was i wrong! These things rule. Music is a big improvement also IMO. Very happy with the Axioms. Thanks to all those who gave advice/recommendations!

Glad that you're enjoying your Axioms, Dalton. As you may know, on some boards(e.g. AVS) new owners of Yamaha 1400s and 2400s are playing with their YPAO and posting the equalization figures to compare with others. If you're of a mind to try that, a few of us are interested.

John,
Thanks for the heads up. I'm gonna go check that out at AVS. HTF is also getting some pretty good discussion going on the new Yamahas. As far as posting the equalization figures, i will try to get them posted sometime this weekend.

Take care,
Dalton
