Hi,

I have never owned a floorstander before so excuse my ignorance if this sounds ridiculous.

I want to make short stands (4" - 6" high) for my M60's with castors (wheels) on them. The reason is because I have very limited space in my bedroom to keep these. Originally I had planned to move my M22's to the bedroom and keep the M60's in the big living room. But that option of M60's in the living room is not working out because of their size.

My bedroom is approx. 11 feet X 11 feet with a 9 feet ceiling. If I use the fixed placement option in my bedroom, I can only place the speakers 4-1/2 feet apart and also the left side of the left speaker will have to be up against the side wall and the left side of the right speaker will have to be placed right up against a TV cabinet. Also the fixed placement option gives me only 2" - 3" from the backwall.

My reasoning behind this is that if I have wheels on them, I can move them forward and more apart (to give them some breathing room) when I play them. At the same time, I would have the ability to push them into a corner when I stop using them.

Would that change the characteristics of the speakers / sound ? I dont think so - but I'm not sure. Just want to confirm with someone that knows more about this.

Also what would be more suitable - plastic castors or rubber ones. I have seen some that have a little brake-like switch on them.

Thank you fellow Axiomites for all your help and opinions.

I'm not sure how it would affect the sound, but it sounds like the benefits of wheels in your situation outweigh the costs. If you do this, I'd definitely recommend locking rubber casters. You want your speakers to have as solid a foundation as possible so the bass comes through clear and not muddy.

I actually like the sound of floorstanding speakers lifted up off the floor a bit better myself. It will effect the sound a touch, but for the better. Mid-bass usually cleans up just a bit. (At least in my experience)

my wife has wooden things?? with casters under them for our larger plants and tree. makes moving them easy. probably could stain to match too.
