I've only had about 4 hours of sleep a night since I dialed in the EP800v4NME. I'm totally addicted to the bass and the new sound of my system now that the bass is totally cleaned up. When I'm at work, all I can think about is getting back to my system. When I'm out with friends, all I can think about is getting back to my system. All my friends now hate me because even though my system sounded good, it's now beyond dreamy. They want what I have but can never get it because their rooms are tiny compared to mine. I don't ever want to move out of this house and into a smaller space because the sound will then collapse into a tiny freakin' sweet spot. Someone help me! I'm considering selling everything because it's ruining my life!

I lost my hearing tonight with the new Gut buster 800....

I am ringing in the night

Cheers to us EP800v4NME owners; the only two in this universe! Now pardon me while I go back to listening until it's time for work tomorrow.

The 800 is a beast. The difference between a 500 and 800 is substantial. I love mine. It is my fav sub in my home.

Can you tell us a bit more about that? No doubt the 800 goes lower but I would expect a 500 to "work" in my 4,200 ft^3 room if I didn't need the deep infrasonic capability.

Watched 'Dunkirk' Blu Ray last night. Generally an OK movie but suffers from too many sub-plots that added nothing to the big picture. Character development was weak as well.

Visuals were stunning; however, what was outstanding - the soundtrack. Massive battle sounds that shook the house nicely even at only -15 db.

My wife upstairs thought there was a war going on downstairs, ha!

I have been using my system with the Model T's and one new EP500 for 6 weeks now. The 500 is really opening up nicely, very smooth and tight bass. I had the sub level set at +3 or +4 to round things out vs. the T's at -2 db and running full range on the crossovers in CD/50 hz for Vinyl. After installing the Crusher 800 with the 'switch', I had to reduce the sub level on the pre-amp down to -3db and most of the time I am running it flat with the mode in Bourbon Smooth. If I go into Gin Gut Punch, I have to reduce the gain on the 800 to just below mid point or I'll be driven out. But the 800 is only two hours old now and it needs a few weeks of run in time so that it will get that nice smoothness that the 500 developed with some use.

This upper bass boost Ian wrote in will certainly please the HT and night club crowd. It just gave the option to have a club or a mellow full flat response for warm music. Everyone will be happy with a flip of the switch.

I think that if this makes it into full regular production, Ian has hit a home run in terms of a simple control which will appeal to most everyone. This is so much more simple to operate than a complicated digital app.

One additional comment. The subs I had been using before with digital readout controls were very cumbersome to set and change on the fly. I'd have to push in the main knob to enter the menus, cycle up down (around actually as it was a knob), find the parameter I wanted to set, then push in again to enter, then turn around again to go up/down, hit it in again to set, then hope that you did it all correctly so that it would save the changes.

And If I just wanted to make another simple tweak, it was back into this menu system.... keep in mind that this control panel was on the back of the amp and that meant pulling the sub around just to see what I was doing.

The EP800V4BSGP is simple; just set up the phasing for best output in the room and meshing with the mains and other subs (this took me about 30 seconds to get dialed in), set the crossover to the range you wish, then set up the gain for how loud you want it in relationship to the pre-amp gain settings.

Play music, listen, then decide if you want smooth even bass and at what level or you want that punch in the gut; if so, flip the switch and made any additional gain adjustments. It's so easy to flip it on the fly, no menus, no reading with your glasses on. I like it a lot; simplicity.

The SVS dial you talked about is a real PITA.

Regarding the gut punch, when I first engaged it, it cut the amplitude response in my room by creating a 15dB notch at 68 Hz. I could tell right away something wasn't right; either FedEx busted it, my room sucked or Ian flubbed the code. The sub sounded simply awesome in 'nad tickler mode and Ian showed my sub some real love in the anechoic chamber, so I knew it had to be my room. After two long nights of running wave equation simulations in MATLAB, I selected one of three possible places to relocate the Might from Dwight. WHAM, BAM, SNAP; I didn't need measurements to tell me I struck gold! I took measurements anyway because that's what engineers do. Between 53 and 76 Hz, I got a 7dB gut punch wallop!

The sub is so amazing even without the gut punch. It exudes confidence with each undulation of its twin, albino drivers. No farting, burping or bleating no matter how much I boost the LFE gain on my Onk; just more smooth, transparent, undistorted, addictive bass. In my room however, the gut punch is very welcome due to a valley in a portion of the gut punch band.

In addition to the custom amp plate, another bonus is Ian's and Andrew's signatures on the drivers which they were both kind enough to do at my request.

To all 'tiny' room dwellers out there. We must make a united stand against the mighty Mojo and his magical black box. Apparenly the box can be used as a coffin and who knows what orther evil uses may be in the works. I was lured into Mojo's Dojo once and barely escaped that time stealing space. I'm convinced that if a pair of v4 towers crawled into that lair no one would make it out alive. With a little more work I know I'll be happy with my 1840 ft3 room. Together we stand!

Sounds like "will it blend ?" scaled up to rec room size.

Brad, once you hear my 800 in its new location with Gut Punch on, I fully expect you will hoist your sub up to your roof, soak it in a mixture of 25% oil and 75% gasoline, ignite it and punt it down the hill.

Ahahahahaha! 8 hundreds rule and all other subs drool.
Posted By: JBrad Re: I hate Axiom! - 02/01/18 01:28 AM
Hoist my sub up to my roof? Not if I'm going to light it on fire. Are you sure that the oil/gas mixture is correct? I'm thinking a little more gas...

Yeah...that's the ratio I use to cook squirrels over an open flame. If you invite me over, I'll supply it. smile

I have a total of about 4 hours on the EP 800 V5 bsgp and its actually starting to settle in, wow, a lot faster than I experienced with the EP500, but then again, I have not hit the 4 week mark yet, so let's see what happens.

Upon arrival, I really could not use the Gut Punch switch too much, it was just too powerful for the room. Tonight it opened up and smoothed out. I put on some key test vinyl "5 Special, Why leave us Alone"... Detroit disco funk, yikes!! I ran it with Bourbon Smooth and Gin Gut Punch.... All I can say is, it's amazing. Then I put on "The Human League, Love Action" Same thing, outstanding. This new sub is a rock crusher and in a very refined way; Its the most powerful, smooth sub I have ever had here. I went through 6 subs, this is special.

Mojo,

Agreed, the SVS control panel is a total pain to use. Too cumbersome, hard to navigate, and difficult to set once you figure out the parameters. I also found that the different listening modes had very little effect on the actual performance. And in the event I wanted to make a slight change, it was difficult to go back to where I was to make the adjustment. As such, I just left it alone and lived with what was close.

This new panel on the EP 800 is so simple to work with and once dialed in, I only need the usual two controls to work with and I can do it blindfolded. The main gain and the "switch". If I want to play with the crossover, it's quick to find and switch without looking at it; but I don't touch it most of the time, I run it at full range 150 hz as this is smoothest for my room.
