Is there a big difference? I’m looking to change my fronts and that is one option.

Please advise.

It has been said you will find a difference, especially from the V1\V2 models.

More refined sound, each model is an improvement from the last.
Myself only have had V4 models so I wouldn't be able to help with what those differences are.

Mr. Alan Loft though retired for a couple years now, didn't enjoy the M60 V1 and 2 by the 3rd he began to enjoy what they had become.

Actually, I believe Alan felt the V1 (Ti's?) versions could do with some refinement which were addressed in the V2's. I believe V2 to V3 was at most, incremental until the tweeter change on the V4's. So, basically the main changes were refinement from V1 to V2 and the tweeter change from V3 to V4 although Ian and Andrew are always tweaking. Keep in mind that not too many people have direct comparisons between different versions of the same speaker, as is my case...altough I have V2's, V3's and V4's, just not of the same speaker...V2's are mains(M80), V3 centre(VP180) and surrounds/backs are a combo of V2 and V4 QS8's. It sounds seamless to me. A call to Axiom would give you more details on the changes made over the different versions.

My suggestion is to listen to as many different speakers as you can and see what it is that you feel may be missing. Ian and Andrew have made changes to refine the speakers but in the end it comes down to you and your room, different is not always better. The room is everything, speakers are designed in an anechoic chamber so that they are not influenced by the room. My M80's sounded great in my previous house but now i have a dedicated room and they sound so much better. I also learned that i need to be much more carefull making speaker wires and soldering as i had a really bad connection when i thought it was good and it was causing my speaker to have limited output . I have been soldering for a lot of years and i still managed to mess up.

Yes, you are correct. It was the original M60ti's that I found harsh and edgy on brasses, soprano female voices and somewhat sibilant on all vocals. It's hard for me to recall now, but it seems that edginess in the treble extended through part of the M60v1 series, but later in the series, Ian got rid of the edginess I complained about, and later versions I liked a lot.

I don't remember which version but in one of the later double-blind listening sessions to the M60, I pronounced it a "wonderful speaker."

Ian likely has the records of those sessions, and which version of the M60 that I really liked.
