Does Axiom typically do any sells other than Black Friday during the year?
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/18/21 05:57 PM
They usually do spring and black friday.

I was going to pick up another 600 and the outdoor speakers but I think I'll hold off until the next sale. I'm still waiting on the 1500 to ship.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/18/21 07:30 PM
Be careful with that 1500 or you'll be smelling M100.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/18/21 07:33 PM
I’ll have it running all 5 channels so I shouldn’t be anywhere close to the speakers’s power handling.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/18/21 07:49 PM
Yup but I thought you were going to try 2 channel first with a lot of juice.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/18/21 07:57 PM
If I run it in stereo I will definitely keep it within normal levels. The power increase alone should make listening at lower volumes a lot more enjoyable. Right now I can't play movies beyond modest levels due to clipping and the sound gets harsh and muddled.
Posted By: Cork Re: sells - 06/19/21 11:31 AM
They never had a Spring sale this year, so maybe their plans have changed and the old patterns are OBE.
Posted By: BBIBH Re: sells - 06/19/21 12:41 PM
Last year I believe they had a Boxing Day sale, as I bought a subwoofer at that time.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/22/21 11:58 AM
I’m guessing there’s still a shortage on parts for the amps.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: sells - 06/22/21 08:20 PM
Yes
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/23/21 02:30 PM
That's what I figured with everything I've been reading. Cork said his took about 7 weeks to ship so I wasn't certain if Axiom was starting to have parts trickling in or if things were at a stand still.
Posted By: aaaaaaaaaaaaa Re: sells - 06/23/21 10:16 PM
Still 2 amps on backorder for subs we are installing. But worth the wait for the result!
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/24/21 03:20 AM
Looks like they received some boards and are running tests. Should see some shipping out next week. Doesn’t mean mine will but it’s good to see things trickling out at any rate.

Ordered a set of the Algonquin's for the outside patio. Looking forward to hearing them and having some music outside when working in the yard.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/25/21 02:36 PM
May not make a difference but with them mounted from the ceiling they have to be mounted sideways. Should I mount them with the tweeters facing the two ends of the patio or towards the center of the patio with the drivers on the outside?
Posted By: rrlev Re: sells - 06/25/21 07:32 PM
Try it both ways and see if either sound better …
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/26/21 03:48 AM
Are there any side walls or are the sides open?
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/26/21 12:11 PM
Retaining wall on one side of the patio where the hot tub sits but the front and other side are all open.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/26/21 01:14 PM
With side reflecting surfaces and outboard tweeters, the soundstage may be wider. But inboard tweeters may give you improved imaging.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/30/21 06:39 PM
M3s just shipped. If the amp goes out this week I'll be in business. I'll probably add a 1000 for the outdoor speakers down the line.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/30/21 07:20 PM
It may be interesting for you to place the Algonquins by the M100s and compare.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 06/30/21 09:14 PM
I did that with the m5s and qs10s. In a smaller room the m5s would be highly efficient as fronts. I have some stands I can test the m3s on.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 06/30/21 10:05 PM
I used M5s in my 4200 cu ft room to replace M80v2. They were 12 feet apart with MLP 14 to 15 feet away depending on how far I reclined. With the 800, they were killer pornosonic holographers.

Then I went to M100v4 and gained greater fidelity in instrument and vocal realism at the expense of loss of total acoustic disappearance. I know your experience is different and you get it all in your room with your M100s. I needed active LFRs to have it all in my demon-ridden space.
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 07/04/21 06:38 PM
These m3s are extremely impressive. Surprising mid bass being outside.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 07/04/21 11:35 PM
Great that you like them. Not sure how they sound compared to the M3s. Unless Axiom changed the design, the M3 has a more sophisticated cross-over. It also has a published frequency response and impedance curve. So not sure the fidelity, soundstage and imaging is similar. These aspects are probably not as critical for most in the intended application. Surely not when you mount them side-ways.

Did you compare them against the M100?
Posted By: Canesfan27 Re: sells - 07/06/21 02:35 PM
I did not set them up inside yet but they are so easy to take down that I will. We were having a 4th of July get together so I wanted to have them set up outside. I do like that the Denon receiver allows me to switch between mono and stereo in zone2 without have to wire them in parallel. I have them mounted 18 feet apart 9 feet high and angled slightly downward. They sound great in mono and stereo but if you are standing anywhere in between them stereo is better. Once I go beyond the boundary of the speakers mono works best. I still want to add another 2 on the other half of the patio and then I'll wire the two on the right together and the two on the left together and see how they sound in stereo when I'm out in the pool area. I may end up having to run mono with all 4 hooked up. It's definitely something I will have to experiment with.

I thought the M3s do not have a crossover, just a resistor and cap to protect the tweeter from a full range signal. The mechanical roll off of the 6.5" driver gives the M3s their unique sonic charm. Maybe the new ones have a crossover.

I bet the m100’s can take it. I remember that clip in the video of an axiom factory tour with a single channel ADA trying to kill some poor floorstander. If a pair of m100 can’t take it then what is the intended application of a single channel ada1500?

Didn’t you try a 1500 with m100’s at some point before your buddy stole them from you?

Axiom should advertise how much “abuse” their products can take.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 07/19/21 12:39 AM
I sure did. I was smelling voice coil and adhesive. At 14 feet away, that was 109dBC peaks and likely more because I doubt my meter was capturing the real peaks.

Axiom does a very good job of spec'ing what their products can take. They quote a continuous rating and a peak which is 4 times continuous. The M100 is good for 400W continuous and 1600W peak. Axiom also publishes sensitivity which is very accurate up to the peak power rating.

A single channel 1500 can source 650W continuous into 4 Ohms across the audible range. In typical applications, you'll go deaf before damaging them but you can smell them nonetheless.

The 1500 was made to funnel as much of the AC wall power as possible into a set of speakers using the latest MOSFET technology. The 1500 can maximize the SPL from the triple HP drivers in the active LFRs. In my living room, I could feel my rib cage compress and I got heart palpitations from the actives without being anywhere close to cranked (-15 on my Pioneer).

Thanks for sharing. I have a wanting for very loud quality audio. I’ve been sort of away from the forum for a bit. Finally got the m60s setup in the new space / house and it’s just not cutting it. The space is too big. It’s not bad but my old space was much more satisfying.

I returned to read forum goings on for inspiration. And now I crave large and in charge for the great room. The old yammie and the m60s sound great in my master bedroom where I had them while finishing up the great room. Might move it back in there.

Anyway, as always , just airing my axiom fantasy’s here!!

The melting m100s was just the fantastical inspiration I needed!!!

It’s been fun catching up on all the comments and chatter in the forum threads.

Are you using 2 ADA 1500-5 to power your actives ( I’m assuming so) and do you think upping to a single channel ADA1500 to power the triple bass woofers per side would bring noticeable / tangible gains ? ( I’m just wondering amid here for posterity’s sake).
Cheers,
Kodiak.

It really is not about "loud". It's about emotionally impactful. You want to be able to hear and feel pops and smacks and position sounds in a wide, deep, tall soundstage without sensing any speakers whatsoever. The M5s were a huge upgrade over my M80v2 in this regard. With the 800v4 over the 600v2, it was pretty awesome.

I'm using a 1500-2 to power the actives' HP drivers and a 1000-8 to power the mids and highs. I think it may be beneficial to move to a 1500-5 for each channel for an improved noise floor. I'm not sure how much practical difference it would make.
Posted By: Kodiak Re: sells - 07/19/21 01:31 AM
Oh you nailed it. Emotionally impactful. Exactly. In my master bedroom I get that feeling of “ oh shit! This is awesome!!” Or I get engrossed in the music. It’s generally at a higher volume that focusses the image and gives it some reality. And always with the better recordings. I guess that’s what I’m craving in my living room. It’s just not the same in there.

1500-2 powering the hp woofers is pretty juicy and impactful I bet. From all your descriptions over the last couple years it sounds like you’ve got plenty of power to satisfy be impactful. But I bet there’s always that question mark of trying something new or trying to improve.

Emotionally impactful, exactly right. Nice one. That’s what’s missing and what I crave.
Posted By: Mojo Re: sells - 07/19/21 02:33 AM
I encourage you to listen very carefully in the living room and bedroom and write down your observations. Where are the images forming in one room vs. the other. How large are they? Where are they in relation to one another? How deep, wide and tall? How does a drum, a snare, a cymbal sound? Take the time to be very specific with your observations. Then try changing the geometry with your MLP in the living room and listen again. Listen on long wall vs. short if possible. You need to establish if SPL is really the issue. Know that a louder set-up can trick you into believing it is better. Listen for other qualities too.

I am not lying when I tell you there is no question mark for me with the actives and sealed subs. There is nothing I want to improve. After more than a decade, I've found sonic peace.
Posted By: Kodiak Re: sells - 07/19/21 03:55 AM
Thanks man. That’s actually really good advice. Appreciate it.

Sonic peace. I believe you on that for sure.

I think my master bed sounds good too not only bc it’s smaller than living room but carpeted, and has less excitability than living room. ( Lots of hard surfaces. ) I’m working towards implementing some other first reflection damping that Trevor helped me out with.

I’ve been reading the lfr 660 thread too. Interesting.

Thanks again for the advice. I think I’ll move things back into master bed in a few days and make some notes and get more nuanced with my ears.

This was today’s find. Fabulous recording everyone! You should all check her out.
My fav is track 7, a classic song , done many times over by various artists. “ Dark end of the Street “.

This whole album is really well produced. What it lacked in emotional impact today, was regained by the amazing imaging and disappearing act of my speakers if I kept my head locked in just the right spot, with 12 feet between speakers and 3.5 feet out from wall. She’s Danish. Sounds a little bit like a young Tina Turner.
