I receive my EP175 sub last week,
and before deciding to keep it,
I would really like to hear HSU STF-2
from somebody near my home.

I live in Granby, Québec, Canada (45 minutes from Montréal).

If somebody have an STF-2 and is interested to listen to EP175, let me know.
It would be really appreciated.
Hi Gaston. Where were you planning on buying one if you do like it? I am not aware of any Canadian dealers, which means that you will have to pay duty since that model is manufactured in China. You may want to look at SVS which is manufactured in the US, or, consider a Canadian product such as an upgraded Axiom model, PSB, Paradigm, or Mirage.
You are right, I did some search and found that I would have to pay more than 100$ CAD for duty and taxes.

That could be a problem and could help me stay with my EP175.

You mentionned many companies who produce many models,
but the question is always the same : Which one to choose ?

Anyway, I still would like to hear an HSU to compare.

I have the Axiom M22ti and decided not to go with an Axiom sub (they are not as highly regarded as their other products). Purchased a PSB 6i and it is really fantastic - and it is Canadian. They make several smaller models as well, I highly recommend them, excellent match with the Axioms.
Thank you for your information.
I will surely try a PSB sub this week to compare with EP175.
The Hsu VTF-2 is manufacture in the US, I do not know how that affects your custom/duties, but I assume NAFTA makes it pretty much free. The STF-2 is essentially the VTF-2 pemanently in max extension. Have a look.
I can also recommend the PSB. I've had one for several years with great results. No problems other than the fact that I'm in an old house and when the soundtrack gets exciting I fear for my safety. I've never felt the need to even think about making a change. My current sub is capable of creating structural damage, a more powerful one would take the neighbor's house down as well.

The current VTF-2 is manufatured in the US, the upcoming VTF-2MK2 will be assembled in China. The STF-2 is also assembled in China.

Great subs, but may not be cost effective in Canada.
Just to clarify, if a product (VTF-2) is manufactured in North America, is there no duties on the item as opposed to somthing produced overseas, which has a high duty tax? How do chain stores get around this, or do they simply pass the price on to consumers?
Actually Hsu are not shipping to Canada right now and according to their website will not be til at least April. They are trying to arrange a
canadian distibutor
I believe the price is passed on to the consumer. There are other options for Canadians who want a sub besides Hsu.
Gaston,
I'd suggest also listening to the Paradigm PS-1000. It's a little more expensive than the EP175 but it's well worth the money. I've had one for several years in my HT system and am quite pleased.
