I am now within 24 hours (I hope) of purchasing an Epic Grand Master System and I have one last sub question…… I just checked with Hsu for pricing and availability on the STF-2 and found it to be out of stock; however the VTF-2 is available at $449, including shipping. Can someone please help me with this decision? Does the VTF-2 stack up against the EP175 as well as the SFT-2 does? Would I be disappointed just going with the EP175

Thank You
John
Coffeedude;

I have never heard any of the Axiom subs, but I can tell you from first hand knowledge that you will not be disappointed with a Hsu VTF-2. The STF-2 is a spinoff of the VTF-2, and I would not expect the VTF-2 to be inferior in any way. From all reports, the EP175 is a fine sub, and it will color match the rest of your speakers (good for the WAF), but since subs are all Hsu does, they are (according to all reports) a small step above the Axiom subs.

Mark
John, I have to agree with Mark. The Axioms may be OK, but the VTF-2 gets pretty high marks all the way around and gives you a good bang for the buck (sorry, I couldn't help myself ).

Take a look at what a bunch of VTF-2 owners have to say here .

Also, you might want to take a look at SVS subs as well.
coffeedude,
So many poopoo the Axiom subs but at least some have honestly stated they have not heard one. Hsu and SVS are great sub companies but they do not have the Axiom finish selection as mentioned. The EP175 is very much in the $$ realm as the Hsu offerings especially if you go the Factory Outlet route and save an extra 10%.
I own the EP350 and it is excellent. I have heard it against at least 2 other subwoofers and it was by far the better unit. It rumbles when needed and is excellent with music although my personal use with it for that purpose is limited (personal preference regardless of sub brand). It was far more accurate than the other subwoofers i had heard.
