For the record my speakers are already ordered and hopefully shipped out today. Anyway, to the question.

I have a Onkyo TX-NR901 Receiver which is THX Select Certified. I like the re-eq that THX offers, but I was just wondering how well the THX RE-eq works with the Axiom Line. I know that the Axiom line has clearer higher range, which could be considered brightness (sort of). How does that sound coupled with the re-eq of the THX Post Processing?

I just can't express how eager I am to receive the speakers!!!!
i have ther Onkyo 701, which is also THX certified.. i to am curious has to how that 'mode' will match up with my AXIOMS..

I have a silly question... If you are running a reciever that is 7.1 but not thx certified will it not take advantage of thx encoding? Along the same lines, does your dvd player need to be thx certified?
I have an older Onkyo (TX-DS575) that has the re-eq feature, but I leave the feature disabled. My room is relatively small and has plenty of soft surfaces, so it does a good job of absorbing harshness on its own.

I think that if your room has many hard surfaces, then it might accentuate brightness, in which case you may benefit from enabling the re-eq feature. Keep in mind, also, that not all movies are mixed the same so some might be more bright than others.
THX has nothing at all to do with encoding. It's basically a set of criteria and standards that Lucas and friends agreed upon.
The re-eq stuff, Alan said can screw up the balance of neutral speakers like Axioms a lot of the time. Yet it depends on what you hear.

I wouldn't worry much about THX. I mean, if the $249 Logitech Z-680s can get THX certified, just about anything can..
probably true, Thasp.

Just a thought though... I think we have learned that high price doesn't always mean quality and on the opposite side, low price doesn't always mean bad quality! Look at SVS, HSU, Axioms, etc!

I'll test it out when I get my speakers, to see what I like better. I think I have sort of a harsh room (I could be wrong) so the re-eq might actually be benifiting me. Anyway, like I said, I'll do some testing when the speakers all arrive!
To answer my own question, I have had the chance to test to see which one I prefer. I'd have to say with the Axioms, I do like re-eq turned off.
I found this thread to be very informative and entertaining regarding THX...you might like it too. You have to scroll down a few posts...and then the good stuff starts.
