Ok so I have been going back and forth about whether to go with a 5.1 or 7.1 channel setup. I have about decided to go with the 7.1. I have read many posts and see that the general conception is that the direct firing M2's are what most people go with for the rear channel in 7.1. I am planning on going with the Factory Outlet speakers and the M3's are only $18/pair more than the M2's. Is there a reason the M2's are better for a rear application than the M3's? Just curious...again thanks in advance for the help.

M2s are more neutral than the M3s. That's the main reason they are recommended more than the M2s. They are also smaller, which is a plus for some.

What other speakers so you have in your system?

Well right now I am only planning my system. I will be getting the M60/VP150/QS8 setup. I was debating on whether to go ahead and get the M2's or M3's for the rear.

Jason,

The M2i's have a closer tonal match than the M3ti's to the QS8s and the M60s. As to whether or not you want to add the extra two channels at the rear really depends on the layout and setup in the room and the positioning of the QS8s and their coverage in your particular room.
