I was just about to order my new home theatre speakers but stumbled into a dilemma. I was going to order the SS36 speaker stands for my M2i's but then I notice that in the description for the SS24 stands it says they are ideal for the M2i's. the SS24 are only 2 feet high, where the SS36 are 3 feet high. Which is better? I'd think that for home theatre you want the front speakers to be at ear level but i can't see that being met with 2 foot stands for the M2i. Is the SS36 a better choice?

Sit in the couch that you will be sitting in while listening to music, measure ear level from ground, and then buy stands that bring the m2i's tweeter to ear level (approximately). Keep in mind that its vertical dispersion is better above than below, so go slightly low if you can't find a good match.

For my pair of M2i's I use 36 inch stands that I got from www.standsandmounts.com

My mileage (yours may vary):

I'm 6' 3", sitting on the couch (kind of a poofy/lowish kind of thing) the SS24s put my M3 tweeters about 2" below my ears if I remember correctly - which is the difference split between my ears and my fiancee's.

If I can suggest - I was neurotic about the feel of a solid (ie: heavy) set of speakers on stands, so I snagged some of her... it's like a waffly foam rubber (Sta-Putt or some other "ingenious" name I'd sure) that keeps rugs from sliding on hardwoods and slipped it between the two... now the speakers sound more laid back, more present, it widened the sound stage by 58.6% and... er, no, none of that, but it'll take a good hip check to unseat them from the stands now.

Thanks Guys

I took out the measuring tape and "simulated" the speaker position. It seems the SS24's will place the M2i a few inches lower than my ear level. The SS36 however seem to raise the speaker a few inches above my head. Due to the close proximity of the speaker position and my seating area (around 8-9 feet) I think the SS24's seem a better fit. The height even looks more appropriate as the SS36 would place the speaker slightly above the top of my tv.
