I've been reading about the Behringer Feedback Destroyer Pro recently, and am interested in it as well in that my plotted bass response is also a roller coaster. It seems as though $120 is pretty cheap to vastly improve the sound of your bass, and with my square room, positioning helps but not nearly as much as I'd like.

I've plotted all the feasible locations and assume that putting my new Axiom 350 in the same spot as my current, "best plotted" subwoofers' location would also be the best for the Axiom? I'm not sure that that is correct, but I know that when reading speaker reviews, many reviewers seem to put each sub in the "favored" position as though the position is really all about the room and not the sub in particular. Is this correct?

Yes, Mark, that's about it; as long as a sub reaches low enough to excite a particular room resonance, it's the room, not the sub, which determines the best position. Although a corner is generally the best spot, in a situation like yours with a 13' square room, corner placement would result in exciting both 13' modes for length and width of the room. The result would be nasty resonances at about 43Hz(560/13)and the second harmonic at 86Hz. So, moving several feet out from the corner along one wall would help.

JohnK,

How do you figure out at what HZ a room will have the resonances? In laymans terms if possable.
Yeah, ditto that question... big time!

I just checked my plot from the sub in the corner and have a huge spike at 44Hz... !

I didn't know that there was a formula for such things.... or are you really just magic?

And, bonus points for remembering that the room was 13' square. You're either really observant or stalking me!

Rick, the speed of sound is about 1130 feet per second. Half of that is divided by each room dimension in question(e.g. 560/13)to determine the primary room mode for each dimension. There are several calculators available online to help.

Yes, Mark, I had difficulty believing that you really had a 13' square room(an especially unlucky combination)so I snuck in one night and measured.

Thanks John I did it and it was pretty much what the rat shack meter was telling me.The calculator has it at 28.25 and the test tones (warble tones from thre Hsu disc) were peaking at 30hz.
Well, OK... maybe it wasn't magic but I'm still impressed. And thanks for the link!

But...ummm..not to sound ungrateful, but...ummm... when you snuck in to measure the room, couldn't you have at least left me one beer?
Hey, I became a veteran on that last post!

Woo-Hoo!

Has anyone ever become a veteran without having received their speakers yet? I feel like I'm somehow cheating....
