Hello, I'm curious if anyone uses any type of transducer for their home theater. If so what do you like or dislike about it? I've been contemplating the idea of integrating a few butt kickers into the sofas in my home theater. I just don't want to spend the money if it's a distraction or irritant. I want to add more awe or wow to the experience.

Thanks in advance!

Tom

I used Bass Shakers in my theater at my old house. In fact, Parts Express has it listed on their web site for bass shaker ideas. (Here is a link http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=222 )

Anyway, more information there about my install that I care to retype here.

As for Butt Kickers, from what I hear, you definately won't need "a few" on your sofa as that would be way more than you would need, or want.

The key is to have them just barely noticable. After all, you don't want people's rear ends to get numb from vibrating too much. I found that on a loveseat only 2 of the regular (non-pro) Bass Shakers were good. I had 8 movie theater style seats that had a single Bass Shaker attached to each of them and that was great. The non-pro version has the capacity for more motion than you will want. I had 10 shakers hooked up to an old pioneer receiver with half on the front left channel, half on the front right channel with the input for that receiver coming from the subwoofer out of my main receiver (which I split off with a Y-cable to send just the bass from the main receiver to the powered sub AND to the Pioneer receiver for the Bass Shakers.)

Butt Kickers are a more powerful, and some say better "per piece" product. For the price, though, you could most likely get a Bass Shaker set up for considerably less, but I am only saying that based off of pricing back when I set things up, and I don't know what the current prices are.

Final thought... When people would come over to watch a movie, the first thing that they noticed were the movie seats, and the second thing that they talked about afterwards were how cool the Bass Shakers were (again, with them turned up just enough to feel without vibrating like crazy, which is too much)...

Thank you!
That's the kind of information that I was looking for. The last thing I want is to have the damn things jiggling the berries
