Hello everyone,

I've always wondered which Axiom models are the most popular or best sellers. If you have some time, please visit my website poll page below, and enter for each poll which Axiom speakers you own. If I forgot any models, please let me know and I can add them to the appropriate poll. Thanks in advance for those that take the time.

ps: Please only take each poll once to keep the stats accurate as possible.

thanks, Randy

My Axiom Speaker Poll Page.

M60's, VP150, EP350, 4 Qs8's
I'd love to vote but I can't get the page to fully load.
I voted.

The page seems to be ok from here.
Posted By: JSkip Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 01/30/05 03:38 PM
The page loads, but without the poll question.
Worked for me too. I hear more on these forums from the m60, vp150, qs8 folks, so I am putting a challenge out to owners of other Axiom speakers to get out and vote.
Heck, everyone should vote on this. Why not, and then you can see Sirquack's nice "starfield" web page, and maybe it will encourage him to put a couple of photos on his web site of his home theater progress (Sorry, but I had to put it in there since I hadn't bugged you about it in about 3 days! )
I voted. Nice idea.
Thanks everyone so far, not sure why some of you are having problems with the website, unless you have older browsers. Yeah I know Nick, I'll try to get some pics up later tonight of the construction process...

Aha! I knew there weren't any other M50 on all the time regulars... (sorry MD55, I know you're around, but you don't post much!) Or QS4s for some reason...
Posted By: JSkip Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 01/30/05 09:20 PM
The site was on my restricted site list. I changed it and now see the poll (and I voted). When do the polls close? Has CBS declared a winner yet?
Oops, how could I have missed this thread? I'm not an M50 regular yet, gonna pull the trigger here in the next coupla weeks for sure. Have had M3s for the last three years or so and couldn't be happier with them. We moved into a larger home reciently and find the M3s just a bit on the small side. The 50s are without doubt the obvious upgrade.

Also, A huge "Thank You" to you, Ken, for asking for the Freq. graphs for the M50 and M60, Those plots show just how well the M50s compare to the M60s. What pleased me most was how the M50s are actually better than my beloved M3s in two critical areas-the ones pointed out in the Masters NRC review: The 1.5k notch (it's GONE!) and the upper mid sag, (smoothed out, way reduced) They also mentioned the bass responce of the M3 as being not too low, of course we know it's vastly improved with a second mid woofer. What IS a suprise is that the 50 may be a bit better than the 60 in one area of bass, and that's the more natural low end roll-off. 30 hz is only about 9db down anechoichly while the 60 shows 30 as being 15db down. Not a big deal with a sub, but could be important without one, like in direct stereo. I use a sub with my system, but, who knows, I may like the sound just as well without it, I'll know in a couple weeks.

Anyway, thanks again for getting us the graphs, and be assured that there is indeed another M50 fan out here, as well as a new member of the M50 Posse.

There now you aren't all by your lonesome.
I haven't seen these frequency response curves; could someone please point me in the right direction ?

Yay! The gang's all here!
Ye Gads! I found it yesterday but I can't find it today! I'm still looking, be right back, they're fun!
OK, found em' Some folks know how to change a word to blue or somwthing, say something like "here" and there it is, like magic or something, ah, but not me. Don't know how. So... go to STEREO, go to page #6 go down to "60s as studio monitors" go down to Dec 23 or so and look for the graphs, should be there.
The plot for the 50 isn't as flat as the 60, but can't realy expect it to be, however it's a lot better than I was lead to believe, and significently better than my beloved M3s.
happy hunting!

M50 Graph
Thanks...Always wanted to see that. By looking at that it seems I get a little boost from my room. I've charted my M50's and I don't get any drop of in the bass until I hit about 31.5 Hz.
Hi Randy, like your site, good work, I'll have to officially sign the log later,-promise. Anyway, I cast my vote for M50 even though I won't be purchasing them for a couple more weeks yet, consider it a done deal. So, morally it's an accuratly logged vote. (I have 3 M3s, that's nearly two 50s, kinda)

Rich
Got it. It's here

[ u r l = <link> ] h e r e [ / u r l ]

Thanks !!

EDIT : And, of course, while I was trying to figure out a way to show the format for a link without the web site trying to interpret what I typed, four more replies came in including direct links to the charts. Oh well...

The first chart kinda makes you want an EP500, doesn't it.
And yet another, oops, two, counting md55, folks sign in to voice their support to the cause! Great!!

That's pretty well FLAT to 31.5? Seems to me that's an impressive bass response, wonder how the average M60 compares to that?

See that y'all, let's not sell the pleasant M50s short.

Now I KNOW I'll be buying the M50s. (as if there was any doubt)

Now, now, let's not get pushy... Careful what I wish for...

I'm going to have to study those graphs more closely, but I think I see the dips in the M50 response near the top as possibly explaining the "laid-back" nature of the M50s the people describe.

BTW, F107plus5, I really like the M22s as well, and would probably also like the M60s!
BTW, F107plus5, I really like the M22s as well, and would probably also like the M60s!

Be careful - F107 seems almost dogmatic in his one-camp-or-the-other-but-not-both perspective!
Freewebs.com was also on my restricted site list.

I revised the list and got to vote.

Then I put it back on the list. .

sirquack- i have officially taken the poll. neat idea, interesting to get to see the instant results.

i also have a discontinued center channel, model CTC-20. but i wouldnt bother putting it on the poll. i would reckon i am the only one who has it. i got it used a month or so ago. nice little speaker. would compete with the VP100 i suspect. but i dont like the fact that the grill doesnt come off.

Hi JSkip, I plan on leaving the polls open for some time to get as many votes as possible, I'm sure I'll never get everybody, but maybe some accurate percentages based on the people that do contribute. I wondered if your problem wasn't a security issue, when I first installed Spybot, it put freewebs.com in there, not sure why, so I removed it also. Maybe that is FordPrefect's problem, I can always add the figures in for someone if they have problems.

Randy

Thanks FordPrefect, as I mentioned to JSkip, my Spybot put in in my list also, not sure why, I've been using Freewebs.com for years for my friends martial arts business, it is a legitimate website, who knows probably some freeporn website out there given my name a bad rap.

I plan to update the site asap with some construction pics, and finished HT pics once all done, just trying to find a reputable taper/mudder/texture person...

thanks guys

thanks bigjohn,

what the heck, I'll add the ctc-20 and give it one vote for you, never heard of it, but we'll see if anybody else bites and gives it a vote. If there is any other Axiom Speakers I've missed just let me know gang.

I have a couple of pairs of older Axiom models (AX3 Reference, AX2 Standard), but they are the original models - no ASW cabinetry, and the 3's have real wood veneer, and both have lifetime warranties.

I bought the 3's in about 1990, from a retail outlet, and visited the factory the same year....just wish I could find the photo's......still looking hard for them....
Posted By: Ray3 Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 01/31/05 04:12 PM
OK, I'm a voter!
I'm not familiar with the older models AX1 AX2 AX1.5 AX5 etc... I can sure add these to the lists if you guys think there is enough people out there that own them. You'll have to tell me which ones are bookshelves and which ones are considered floorstanding....Randy

Posted By: BBIBH Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 01/31/05 06:06 PM
I doubt there are many people who have the AX models. We occassional get a question regarding them, but I have heard of noone besides myself that owns them.

The AX lineup had bookshelves (1, 1.5), midsized (2) and floorstanders (3,5). At one point a sub and center were introduced (if memory serves). They then went ASW cabinets, and then the current lineup started to show up.

For those interested in why I have not moved to M60's, the reason is that I decided that I wanted to spend my money on other equipment. I found the need (want??) for multiple distinct systems, and built them according to my goals for them - i.e. background, midfi casual listening, and audiophile/serious listening.
I went ahead and added them to the polls, just in case..

thanks BBIBH

I was beginning to wonder if anybody was on the M40 posse
Posted By: alou Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 01/31/05 10:30 PM
Apparently I'm the one-and-only...doesn't make for much of a posse.

Maybe the others are too embarrassed. I say..."size doesn't matter!! It doesn't matter the number of woofers, or even the size of you woofers, but it's how you use them!!"
Please, do not feel alone-you have friends.
As an M3 owner for a number of years and a soon to be M50 posse member, I would prefer to consider you as a kindered spirit.
Axiom is good, we have the option of choices. The M3 M40 M50 group is alive and well, just not as vocal or numerous as the others.
If nobody else has said it: Welcome to our exclusive club.

Ash,
Trust me...a female doesn't have to be an audiophile to laugh.
Hi Snakeyes, I confused I do have a category for SUB, or is there another Axiom model I forgot?

Thanks Randy

He's suggesting a category for non-Axiom sub. Right now there are about 4x as many pairs of mains as there are subs... it would be interesting to know how many have "no sub" vs. "someone else's sub".

Maybe a good approach would be to add a non-Axiom category to each of the bookshelf, desktop, center, surround, sub categories with the rule that you should only enter numbers for speakers in the same system as your Axioms... then again it's working mighty fine as it is.

Basically the poll says everyone has M60s, QS8s and VP150. Hey, I already knew that
Thanks Bridgman

Yes I really wanted to keep it to Axiom only, however, I kinda like your idea. I think what I'll do is add a non-Axiom category to each of the polls with the stipulation that it is used with the same system as other Axioms in your setup...

Ok, I've made some changes to the Polls, thanks to Snakeyes and Bridgman

For each category, I've added a Non-Axiom option, in case you have a mix of Axioms with other brands of speakers, for example an SVS sub.

The only catch is you must be using this Non-Axiom speaker with Axiom speakers. Ok so I don't have anyway to monitor the results, I just have faith and trust in you guys/gals.

thanks Randy

Posted By: md55 Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 02/02/05 05:18 PM
What about an other axiom made speaker option for surrounds. I'm using Michaura M55s made by Axion for surrounds and the CT20 is actually a rear center.
Thanks MD55, I'll have to give this some thought, I don't want the polls to get to carried away, as my original intent was to see what Axiom speakers everyone owns. BigJohn is the one that told me about the CTC20 Center speaker he uses, I don't think he is using it as a rear channel. Have to keep Bigjohn happy Besides I'm a little confused on why you would call it a Rear Center, dialog does not come from a rear channel, unless you are referring to a 6.1 setup?

I guess for your Axiom made M55, you would say just use the Non-Axiom option in the surround category poll. Thanks all...Randy

In reply to Big John's post I noticed that, at a "HT" store up here in N.W. Ontario, Axiom has gone mainstream with it's discontinued product line.

the Power Centre advertises;

Axiom ct6 bookshelf speaker $98 cdn
Axiom ctc 10 centre channel $68 cdn
Axiom ctc20 centre speaker $ 78 cdn
Axiom cts100 subwoofer $ 98 cdn
Axiom ct60 tower speaker $ 178 cdn

Is this for real?!? I hope the ctc-20 does not compete with the vp100, otherwise I paid a couple hundred dollars too much!! Could this be approved by Axiom? Are these REALLY Axiom speakers? Any insight from someone who works for Axiom?

BTW I did enter the survey.... So is not a total hijack

But seriously, do you think this small stereo shop is trying to pull a fast one, or do they have authorization? OR do they even need it.

sorry for the hijack

W

No mention of these models on Axiom website's vintage page, but if they are Axioms, I guess they should be part of the survey.
Interesting, until Bigjohn told me he had an Axiom CTC20 center, I had never heard of those models. As you mentioned the archive page only talks about the AX series of speakers. Hopefully one of the old timers can give some feedback as to the legitimacy of these speakers. Heck I don't mind adding them to the poll, if there are some folks out there that own them....

Randy

Randy, i like the sound effect on your home page. it makes all giddy then i long for my ht its all taken apart since im waiting for the ax's and im demolitioning and rebuilding the room. it sounds pretty cool on the altec lansing 3pc computer speakers.
Thanks there Jacob, nice name, that is my 6yr olds name. Anyway, if you have a slow dial up connection my site will load slower, but a lot of people these days have cable, dsl, or wireless access. I live out in the country on an acreage, and so far I'm lucky if I get anything faster than an 24000 kbps connection.

What is funny about the Home page sound introduction, which is a THX midi sound, is I don't have any THX approved equipment, I just thought it was kinda cool. I'm also in the remodeling phase, and all my system stuff is up in the living room, man my wife loves that...Hopefully will get all the taping/mudding/texturing started in a few weeks. I hope to put some construction pics on my sight soon...

Randy

yeah my stuff is sitting useless. and the ax's will be here friday. but i told my wife she cant say anything about my dedicated ht. ans she says i cant put anything electronic in her sitting room. temp or perm. i say deal and i will suffer for a week.

the non-axiom sub percentages are interesting.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Tell me what Axiom speakers you all own. - 02/10/05 10:09 PM
Well, that option wasn't added in for a little while, right? I just voted for that.
Ditto on the sub entry, just did the same myself on a non-
Axiom sub.

I also use a non-center rated Axiom as center (an M3) and know that a lot of other folks do the same (no, not all of
them use M3s of course) but is it something we want or need
to track-at such a late date?

Rich.

Yeah Ken, I did make some changes on 2-1-2005 as Snakeyes and Bridgman gave me the idea that many people don't use Axiom Subs, or may have other speakers in combination with their other Axiom speakers.

hopefully everyone that voted earlier will come back and add in their changes, but if they don't, oh well....
All the poll needs to be "perfect" is some way to deal with the use of bookshelf speakers and floorstanding speakers as something other than mains. Probably too late now because of the cleanup work but it would be real nice if :

- bookshelf and floorstanding were combined as "mains". It would be really nice to be able to directly compare M22 usage against M60 usage as mains, for example

- center and surround options included a couple of other Axiom options, eg. M2/M3/M80 as center, M2/M3/M22/M80 as surround

- maybe another list for rear channels (6.1/7.1)

You would need the time and the ability to be able to back out some results, eg. I picked M2s under bookshelf and M60 under floorstanding when in fact the M2s were surrounds at the time I filled out the poll. The M2s would have been centers if the poll had come out a couple of months earlier

If you have the ability to do a limited amount of editing I figure maybe a dozen people at most would ask for changes. You would need to combine the bookshelf & floorstanding numbers.

If you feel up to it and I can help let me know.
The Poll configuration on my Web Hosting site is very forgiving, as I can move stuff around and manipulate the numbers easily. I'm not sure how I would know, based on the current stats, which bookshelve numbers would apply to mains, surrounds, etc... there are just some many possibilites or combinations people might have in their setup. But I am open for suggestions.

Thanks

OK, Here it is...
(2) M22ti's on 24" stands
(1) VP150 sitting on custom shelf flush over TV
(2) QS8's mounted on wall behind couch (only spot avail.)
(1) SVS 25-31PC-PLUS (Capable of producing insane amounts
of bass)
Yamaha RX-V2095 receiver
Sony M555ES 400 disk cd player
Samsung HLP5085W DLP TV
RCA HD receiver via DirectTV Satalite
old Toshiba DVD (soon to replaced w/ Denon 1910)

I still have doubts about pairing M22s with a PC-PLUS sub. Aren't the M22s likely to fall over when you crank the volume up ?

Bryan, did you go to my webpage and enter your numbers into the polls? I can do it for you, but normally people enter their own?

I now only own M60s and the EP175 sub. Sold the QS8s and center to a friend.

The EP175 sub is looking like a worthless purchase.

a wortless purchase? what do you mean?

and any reason you sold the QS8's and center? were you not happy with them either?

just curious.

sirquack, I responded to your poll.

M22's = Fronts with a VP150 Center.

It occurs to me while reading this thread, that I have no idea how many speakers Axiom sells.
Does anyone have an idea?
Today's header says that there are 3220 Registered User(s).
I wonder what the percentage is between owners and non (probably pretty low) on the boards.
I wonder what the percentage is between owners who activly participate on these boards and those who have bought but never posted.
1 - 100? 1 -1000?
Randy, did you keep track of how many people voted?
Hey Seabear, I've wondered the same things your asking. I'll never get all Axiom owners to take the polls, however, I was hoping based on the percentages to get an overall idea. As far as keeping track of numbers, on each poll, it tells you how many votes I've received for each speaker, but people obviously vote in each category, so the total number of votes would not be accurate. I would think Axiom could give us some general numbers of how many sales of each speaker they sell each year, maybe an average...
If you want a data point I know 3 other people with Axiom speakers and only one of them (me) has ever logged into the board.
I had to glue everything down throughout my house!
I would eventually like to upgrade my M22's with M60's
and use the M22's for another room....Someday...

I recall, I did enter the pole one late night.
