I was going to the local Roh's Superstore here in Tucson, Arizona, USA and they had a Denon 2105 with a retail of $649.00. The sales guy said he would knock off some of the price so it ended up to be $575.95 + tax = $620.

I saw online that the lowwest price was around $419 + shipping.

I found on Ubid that it is 359 w/shipping refurbished..

Roh's is the only authorized Denon dealer in Tucson. They also offer extended warranties for in house and other stuff too.

Should I buy online or go with the local store because they have been around for a while? I know the price different is huge but is the availality of customer service worth the difference in price?

In the unlikely event the receiver needs warantee work, the local shop probably isn't an authorized Denon service depot. If that's the case, no matter who you purchased the unit form (assuming it is from an authorized dealer or E-tailer) it would have to be shipped to Denon. I personally couldn't justify spending $200 extra just to be nice to the local dealer. But then I'm a consumer who figures it's my job to get the best value for my earned dollar.

i see Ubid is an authorized Denon B or refurb stock E-tailer. Denon reduces their normal 1 yr warantee to 90 days for such receivers. Many other makers don't reduce their warantee periods that much, if at all.

Many folks on this board have purchased refurb or B stock and the vast majority have been very happy with the experience (myself included - although i've only had my Onkyo a few weeks).

Good luck - Paul

I would not be afraid of buying online as long as it is a reputable/authorized Denon dealer. Myself, I actually also purchase locally at a large retail chain, but they were having an employee cost day, and I got my 2805 for around $700 new. I'm sure I could have done better online, but oh well, you can't take it with ya

Both my son (in ABQ) and I (in KY) have ordered refurbed Denon's from Ubid. We are both very satisfied and the savings was great. Spent the extra money on the EP500.

More food for thought. As JohnK posted to someone else last night, new Harman Kardon AV635's are available for $680 from J&R (shipping included). You might want to consider this one, it is cheaper than the Marantz you are looking at. HK has a very versatile bass mgmt. system (you can select different corss-over point for each pr. speakers) which often comes in handy with different sized speakers in a 5.1 or 7.1 system. HK is also very conservative with their power (watts) ratings cause they are one of the few that rate watts with all channels driving at the same time. Generally add 50% to compare with other companies published power ratings.

Just playing around with the link thing.

HK635

Hey, it worked.
Ok, so I'm not a computer whiz and am sometimes easily impressed by myself.
