Ok guys after all the posts here about SACD I just had to see what else I have been missing out on. I checked and my Onkyo 601 and Sony 400 disc changer have the 5.1 connections.
This is a pre-setup question.. It's my understanding that the Sony has speaker level adjustments that I will have to calibrate each speaker using the trusty SPL meter as well as turn on the 5.1 output as well.
Are there any other tips and/or comments that you can offer to me before I get home and get started?..
Thanks again and can't wait to hear what I have been missing..
Rick
PS.. I picked up two of James Taylor's SACD's for a start..
on your cd player, make sure and verify that your bass managament is properly set. you may need to adjust where the crossover point is. once you go with SACD's, it will override the settings that you have in the receiver, and use the ones in the cd player. also, pull up the cd/dvd player menu, and make sure the SACD is enabled.. a lot of times from the factory, the setting is set to OFF.
once you get the disc playing, you will need to select the proper input on the receiver.. the 601 should be just like my 701.. i believe on the remote, right below the channel buttons(on left), there should be a button that say "audio sel" or "audio inp".. you will need to push that button til your receiver reads 'multichannel'. i believe it will go thru your other inputs like analog, optical 1, optical 2, etc.. just go to the one thats says 'mulitchannel', and you should be good to go. and make sure that you push that button back to optical 1, or whatever you main input is when you are done listening. good luck, and hope that helps.
PM me later if you are having any issues hooking up or with the receiver.. i will check it a couple of times this evening.

Hi Rick,
This is totaly off thread, but it may have been confusing if I had used my wifes' name in my password-I would then have been "RichKathie" and running my 400 disc sony thru my 602.
I gotta get me somathem SACDs one of these days too, so I can set-up my player and see what I'm missing as well.
I'll be reading these responces right along with you!
Rich.
Rich,
I really liked a girl named Cathy when I was in middle school and the running joke was what her name would be if we got married...Cathy Cathey
It never came to pass but I will never forget that one..
If you haven't ever heard any good mastered SACD's you are in for a treat..
Rick
Roger has already informed me that when the day comes that we can get married, he'll
not be taking my last name and becoming Roger Rogers.
"Ummm, "Flight 603….Captain to Control Tower", "Captain to Control Tower". We need to make an emergency landing at your airport. Over".
"Control Tower to 603. What is your emergency?".
"603 to control tower. We have an airsick passenger. Roger?" "Passenger name is Rogers".
"Roger, 603. Repeat again, passenger's name?"
"603 to control tower. Roger Rogers. Roger?"
"Roger 603. There seems to be a problem with your Ringor Communications Radio. We are hearing a stuttering. Roger on the Ringor?"
"Roger, control tower. Ringor Communiications is OK. Passenger's name is Roger Rogers. Roger on the Ringor?"
"Roger Ringor. Roger Rogers is passengers name?"
"Ummmm, Roger, control tower"
"Tower to 603. Is this a joke? Did you bring in a ringer?"
Perfectly understandable. Every time he mentioned his name people would say "over and out."
OK, OK! all three of you guys! I admit Defeat!!
And Rick;
I also have to admit that it's time to get some good quality SACDs,(especially now that I can-at least temporarily-modify my listening room to make my system sound about it's best)So yup, time to get some new connectors and get my Sony further plumbed into the ol' 602!!
Lookin' foreward to that!
Rich.
ROBBIE:Hey,I don't know your last name.
GLENN:It's Gulia.

riiiiiiiight. I knew I'd heard it before.
Soooo... how's the neighborhood, Mr. Rogers?
Wow...never heard that one before. *sigh* I expected so much better than that from you of all people Peter. <shaking head in dismay>
You do know that after becoming a father, a dormant gene activates that randomly short-circuits a man's humor meter.
(Now's the part where you're supposed to say something about me eating pumpkins.)
There's also a dormant gene that increases parental tolerance of bodily fluid mishaps.
And, for the record, my dad was never a piper, and I have never illegally absconded with any porcine property.
Wow! Your vocabulary is almost as resplendent as that novelist who posted a month or two ago.
