I am currently planning on buying a 61" 1080P HD TV. It will probably be a Samsung, although I am not fixed on that brand. I have already bought and assembled the TV stand, so I am READY!! Besides, my old Sony 46" widescreen is on its last legs, and the wife wants a new one. Isn't that GREAT???? Already have wife approval!!!!

I have been following the AVS Samsung forum so I could keep informed as to the projected delivery date and any potential issues. The following is the link:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=493443&perpage=20&pagenumber=171

There are almost 200 pages of posts. Wow!!!

Anyhow, some of the new owners of the current 720P sets are reporting "lip sync" when then connect from their source, through the surround receiver, and then to the TV. The issue seems to be the time that the TV video processor takes to do its thing introduces a time delay. I don't know if the same issues will be with the 1080P sets when they are introduced next month, or not. They claim that there will be a new light engine and additional processing. But, who knows?????

In any case, do any of you use HT receivers or seperates that have variable time delay that can compensate for this so called "lip sync?" If so, what is the brand and model?

As an aside to a post I made on another thread, there happens to be a Rotel dealer where I live. I went by the store late this afternoon to see the gear, first hand. I asked him about the programmable delay. He didn't know for sure but thought some of their units did, and offered to call Rotel on Monday and give me a call when he had the answer. I took him up on his offer. I also got one of the Rotel brochures. I noticed, looking at the Rotel website, that their units did not appear to have HDMI input/ output connections. He confirmed that. Do any of you know if Rotel is going to offer HDMI switching?

Any comments would be appreciated.

The Rat.

never heard of this problem

i dont mean this to kick you off the board, but have you tried posting this question on a board about those tv's, or the avs forum board?

I too was concerned about this issue. I had heard that some of the Sony's do have issues. My Sony direct view HD tv doesn't have any problems. But with some types of digital displays I think it is something you need to be aware of.

The HK 435 and above have the delay feature (I have a 635 and love it) as do the 2805 model and above in the Denon line. I am sure other brands do as well, though the feature does not seem to be common on entry level models.

I have been watching and monitoring the AVS boards very closely. I thought that I might get some more input here.

I had a similar problem with my front projection set up.

My Panasonic DVD S97 was connected up via component (and HDMI, but for this instance, component was the problem) through my Pioneer Elite receiver, and then to my Sanyo Z3 projector. I had the projector doing the 1080 upconversion, and thus it had a delay in processing time and the lip sync was noticably off.

I just looked in my DVD player manual and it showed me where I could change the setting on the DVD player to delay the audio. I had quite a range of settings and just increased the delay until it was right on. Of course now I just let the DVD player upconvert and send the video via HDMI so it isn't a problem any more.

Not sure if this helps or not, but if the display is doing the upconversion, then this could be a problem. If the signal coming IN to the display is already HD, then you should be OK, or so I would think....

Just my thoughts, take them for what they are worth.

good points nick, I was going to also mention checking the delay on the receiver and/or dvd player. Only time will tell if I have to mess with that for my dedicated front projection HT

I have been watching the AVS Samsung thread today and there doesn't seem to be a "preferred" solution to this problem. I also have not seen anyone post that their receiver can compensate for the audio delay.

Most interesting.

I'm on my way out the door, but my Denon 3805 has an audio delay feature to correct lip synch issues....

as does my 2805, can't speak for other receivers.

Thanks fellas, I'll look at their technical specs tomorrow.

Actually, I went to the Denon website manual for the 3805 and found where you can adjust the delay from O-200 milleseconds. It appears that you can adjust it for each input source.

That's great. I suspect that will solve the lip sync problem. I may post this on the AVS Forum.

Wonder what other receivers have this feature?

The delay on my HK 635 is 0-200 milliseconds. I imagine the HK 435 has the same length delay.

My Yamaha 2500 has it. So did my old 2092.
I have nothing to go on, but I would be kind of surprised if most of the better recievers, once you get up towards the upper end of their lines, don't offer this feature.
