Hi all,

My progress came to a halt before I started mounting the speakers. I was getting a lot of useful information from past posts regrading speaker mounting, and I went with some suggestions to go for Omnimount. The engineer in me wanted more safety factor and ordered 5 20.0s, only to find out when I received them that they are 3/8-16, much bigger than the pre-drilled holes at the back on my QS8s, VP100 and M22s.

So given the problem I evaluated options:

1) I saw some posts about drilling to the back of speakers but I could not find any followup on the results. Needless to say I am reluctant to go that route as that might void the speaker warranties.

2) The other option offered by Axion Support is to exchange the 20.0s with 10.0s, where the latter is 1/4-20. I have read successes from folks that used 10.0 for QS8, how about for M22 and VP100 ? VP100 is more that 14 lbs... not sure if 10.0 can handle that weight.

3) The last option is to return all 20.0, and get 2 10.0 (ceiling) for the QS8, and buy 3 Axiom FMBs for VP100 and 2 M22s.

I would appreciate any feedback, as I have scratched my head till late night for the last few days... My ears are itching for the speakers...

Thanks in advance,
Ken

I can't imagine why the Axiom FMB would not be the best solution.

Have you thought about the Architectural series if your planning on wall mounting your speakers? They would not stick out as much and are designed to be mounted on a wall.

My only concern is placement and calibration. Once you mount your speakers you won't be able to move them around to get the best possible placement per the characteristics of your room. This is not as big of a deal for the Q series as they are very forgiving because of the quadpolar design, but the center and mains are a different story..

I mis-typed something on previous post: I am setting up a 7.1 and am using 2 M22 for mains (I am using speaker stands for them), and 2 QS8 for surround, 2 M3 for back, and Vp100 for center. My questions should have asked about mounting 2 QS8 from ceiling, and 2 M3 on back wall. The M22 is on speaker stands so they are maneuverable. I do agree about what you said about center channel.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

There can be a big difference with the center channel if you mount it at various heights in relation to the main tweeters or don't have it aimed correctly towards the listeners.

Also, if it is in-line or set back a bit from the mains makes all the difference in the world on the experience. If you don't believe me ask Alan at Axiom.

For the Qs8's, I took the DIY route and used some shelf brackets from Menards with a gloss black plastic cover to hid the wiring.

The Subject Line is "Mounting Speakers" and no one has commented? Peter? Asleep at the switch?

Where's BigJohn when you need him?

Sirquack -

Would you recommend using those shelf brackets on a drop ceiling? I just finished my basement and my new home theater room may present a challenge for mounting the side surrounds. I'll have some pictures soon and will post in a separate thread so I don't hijack this one.

Even I need to practice some self restraint occasionally.

Royce I'm not sure...the Q speakers are pretty heavy. Under the plastic cover there is a heavy duty L-bracket that I screwed up into 2 x 4's with 1.5" screws. I'm not sure the suspended ceiling would support and keep the speakers level or drooping...

Thanks for sharing that Sirquack. I have seen your pictures before. Did you drill a hole in the bracket and thread the axiom bolt from it to the QS8 ?

Regarding the center channel, how did you set up yours now in relation to the mains ? Much appreciate any info you can share.

Thanks,
Ken

Yep Ken, there was already a hole on the side I used, it was just to small. Had to use a good drill bit to open up the hole a bit. Then I used the existing bolt that comes with the speakers.

I'm in the process of building my stage right now, so right now I just have the Center sitting on a small table between the mains.
