This picture is from one of the 2-channel modular amps, the epm-2150, that slide into the Emotiva MPS-1 chassis. I've never noticed speaker wire terminals like this one. How would you attach 12AWG speaker wire to this? On one forum somone told me they looked spring loaded where you push in on the side and then place the bare wire in place. Another person told me they look like 12V Trigger jacks, in which they would come off and they have a set screw that compresses the connecter?

Does this sound right? The second picture is that of the same thing in their monoblock module, the epm-300, notice it has regular speaker terminals.

I've seen that before, on old pro amps. I have no idea how it connects though, although I suspect that 12 gauge is out of the question.

If you're talkin about the light green connectors, I have seen similar connectors on PLC equipment used to control factory automation. I think they had small set screws. I would have to locate some at work and take a peek, as it has been awhile. i guess I am trying to say they are probably generic electronic connectors. No idea about 12 gauge wire. I maybe could come up with one of these connectors, to determine max wire size

It is a resistance weld controller. I believe those wires are used to sync the control circuit to the main 480 and/or secondary current sensing.

Well, the first picture was from AV123.com and the second picture was from Hometheaterhifi review on Emotiva's review link. Audioholics also has done some nice reviews in the past.

I found some spec's and they call those terminal "detachable screw-in"? hmm

Emotiva has been partnered with AV123 (they sell Rocket speakers) for several years, but recently started their own "Store" website and not going through AV123 anymore.

I just purchased the MPS-1 and two of the 300 monoblocks for now, with plans to expand as budget allows.

Randy, my guess is the top picture is the front portion of the module that slides into the chasis, and the lower picture is the rear where you will connect your speaker wires.

Actualy, the top picture is that of the 2-channel epm-2150 amp, top left being the back, top right being the part that slides into the amp.

The bottom picture is the 1-channel monoblock epm-300 amps, 7 of them inside the chassis.

Here is a pic of the 300's in place with one being slid in...The MPS-1 with 7 epm-300's weighs over 115lbs. Each amp having its own power supply and toroidal transformer. Gene Dellasalla's review on Audioholics gave it very high marks for the quality of all the components and the best capacitors, not to mention how it performed at one of his relatives columbian party's.

You will find those on alot of multi-room and home integration equipment. We call them dongles. Persobally, I hate them.... These have a screw on one side which compresses a metal plate onto the wire. I would rather have spring clips than those. Unless they are a decent size you cant really put any large gauge wire in there and they will not accept anything besides bare wire and perhaps pin connectors. Im not sure if those ones in particular are detachable or not but usually they are and can sometimes pull out a little too easy.

I havent had personal experience with those amps, but all the Xantech stuff I install for work has those and i have never liked them. I mean, theres worse. But any traditional 5 way binding post or spring clip would be better IMO.

As long as they are of decent enough size they shouldnt be too bad, But that alone would be a major deciding factor if i would buy that amp or not. Judging by the size in relation to the RCA inputs i would say that it definetly will NOT accept 12awg without cutting it down to perhaps 16. They also do not provide adequete spacing between the positive and negative terminals to reliably prevent shorting out, also.. IMO.

It sure is one nice looking piece of equipment, and I've read nothing but good reviews about the Emotiva stuff.

I just found a thread over on AV123 where they have mentioned that there was not enough room for dual binding posts like the epm-300 monoblock. They also mentioned that bare 12 gauge wire fits fine, or even using pins. I guess the pictures are misleading.

How do you buy just the chassis?

I had to call their sales number the other day to order it that way. They are updating their new website since AV123 is no longer selling on their products.

Michael (Richeydog) actualy is the one that told me about this design when I was considering Outlaw mono's. It comes standard with 7 of the epm-300 mono's, but you can order just the chassis ($300), epm-300's ($199), or epm-2150's ($249) in any combination.

I'm just getting two epm-300's for now to drive the 80's, and will eventually get a third for the vp150, followed by 2 of the 2150's to drive my Qs8's.

Arg.... sounds like such reasonable prices! Must... resist....
