What do you all recommend for in-wall speaker wires. Is the stuff Axiom sells CL rated? This is the highest strand count stuff I've seen, but it's not the 6-9's O2 free stuff that Alan touts.

Any help would be appreciated.

I ran the 14 gauge stuff Home Depot sells and it was 59 cents a foot cdn. No problems at all and its has been 6 yrs so far, no tarnishing and sound quality has not been hampered.

My previous HT surround cabling was with Monster 14/2 CL2 in-wall stuff I got at HD for cheap IIRC. So I cut off an inch or so and disected it - 102 strands per conductor for 14ga. So I went to HD and Lowes with no luck. I've got some of Axiom's stuff on the way for the front 3, but want to be up to code on the back 4. Still looking....

Scott, if by "no luck", you mean that you didn't find in-wall rated 14 or 12ga at HD or Lowes, that's surprising. If so and you want to order on-line(with shipping charges, of course), Blue Jeans has Belden 5000UE for $0.38/ft. and Parts Express has Carol's 14/2 at $27.86/100 ft. Both are CL3R.

That's what I thought. I'll look again today to make sure I didn't miss something - then off to the internet. Thanks for the links. Monoprice has good prices, too, but they're out of stock on ALL their speaker wire.

Finding 12 gauge speaker wire at either Home Depot or Lowes can be a hit or miss item, I found this to be our case back whenever we were doing our room. If you do happen to find it, you may want to purchase the complete spool for a better price.

I am using the Belden from Bluejeanscable.com

Awsome cable.

I used 16/4 in wall wire. I combined the wires to make one for the positive and one for the negitive. By doing this I now have what amounts to 13 ga. wire that cost me .25 a foot.

I did my new HT room with Home Depot 12 gauge.

The only reason I will buy a 'slightly' more expensive brand next time is because this stuff was as stiff as boards. Very difficult to fish and just generally a pain in the ass to work with. I cut my hands stripping it and I have a good pair of strippers.

My Brother gave me a partially unused spool of Monster stuff, which I would !never! pay for myself, but I will admit it was sooo much easier to work with.

What I've noticed with the Home Depot cable (especially when you get into the high gauges) is that they make the insulation excessively thick to make the cable look thicker. Pain to work with--just gave away a spool of 14 gauge because it drove me bonkers.
