Was going to hijack another thread but I'll post my own to be polite.

Been using EAC to convert all my CDs to flak files since reading about it here on this board. However, I'd also like to upgrade some of my lower bitrate MP3s for my portable since I'm going to be going through my stacks anyway.

I have other software but it would be nice if I could have EAC do the work since I have it open anyways. problem is, I can't get the configuration right to use LAME encoder instead of the ones that came with it. (I seem to think I like Lame results better but it could be just me.)

Can anyone doing the same please tell me the proper config. A screenshot of the options page would be helpful if that's easier.

I think all you have to do is download lame and install it into the EAC folder. Then there's a tab somewhere called compression (I'm at work now, so I can't view the software), and from there you are able to choose the lame encoder. I'm not totally sure about this though.

Ya I'm not sure what exactly your problem is... but you can get the latest build of LAME, put it anywhere on your PC and tell EAC where to find it. Then inside of EAC tell it was command line switches to use.

If you're brave, there's a tool out there called REACT that I use with EAC.

Basically, it allows you to automate your music encoding. In one shot, I use it to make FLAC files for my HTPC, make MP3 files for my iPod, download the cover art, and normalize the volume in the music files to 89dB - all in one shot.

Huge drawback, though... setup requires editing an INI file with Notepad.

You need to lose everything in the url after .jpg. If you do that, you'll get:

Here's more detailed instructions:

Go to the EAC option at the top left
Scroll down to Compression Options...
Check the box Use external program for compression
At Parameter Passing Scheme choose LAME MP3 Encoder in the dropdown box
Finally, Browse where lame.exe is located on your hard drive

You probably already figured it out, but I felt the need to help anyway. You can act like I helped even if I didn't!

Something was not quiet right with the copy of lame.exe I had. I downloaded another copy from another site and it worked. File size was signifigantly different. Hopefully the first wasn't a trojan in disguise. I can't remember where I got it but it was a serious encoder sight.

I'll be checking out 'React' as well. It's just what I need. I have no problem modifying an .ini file. I'll mess around with the registry as long as it makes my life easier.

Technically minded or inheritantly lazy? You be the judge.

Can't be lazy as I waste more time trying to automate things than I ever get back as a return.

Ya gotta love the FAQ (Ajax) interactive section on this website.

I love EAC but it has a couple major downfalls... when it creates id tags it doesn't put in the Album Artist. It also doesn't get album art. So I always have to go thru a manually do both of those things. I was wondering if anyone has an automated workaround for that.

I might have posted too soon... looks like REAC and Ultimate EAC Pack both do those tasks... now to get motivated to check em out.
