Happy owner of an EP500, but I've been noticing something lately. Not sure if it's new or if I'm just now noticing, but it seems like the EP500 needs to be turned off and on every few days to perform optimally? I have noted on an SPL meter (all other factors the same) that I can have as much as a 3 db variance after I've played the sub at my reference level for a while. It's not DRAMATIC, but noticable. So for example, when I start listening to reference material it sounds incredible. After a while it seems to drop off when re-listening to EXACT same material at same leve. If I turn the sub off for a while, and turn it back on, BAM, right back to the good stuff. I have verified this w/the SPL as well. My question is, is this a function of the DSP needing to occasionally be re-set?

That's an interesting phenomenon and good that you've verified it with an SPL meter. I should try the same test on my EP500 at home.

Hopefully an Axiom staffer will see this and respond, but have you tried calling and telling them about this?

Hi,

Interesting issue, darthkringle! I've sent you an email - we'll get to the bottom of this!

a very strange incident...is Randy in your neck of the woods?

Welp, being that I always leave my EP500 turned on and that this thread has now caught my interest, (I admit I haven't noticed this phenomenon, and I'm too lazy to test this myself ) and until this "issue" is either confirmed or resolved, I'll just start occasionally cycling power on my sub.

Of course, now that it's on my mind I'll be listening more carefully and whip out the old meter effens I have to!

Nope, not in Texas. I'll be in Nashville for 4 days this week at a conference though.

I do have the issue when electrical storms are in the area that my EP600 likes to thump away all by itself with nothing else turned on. If I unplug and replug it back in the thumping stops. It is like it stores up energy or whatever like in Poltergeist.

I knew it that must be it! Randy must have his own poltergeist... That explains it all

Very creative. It looks like you have all the photo-editing toys .

The apparations were so realistic...it was as if a veil was lifted over the ghost and I was seeing it for the very first time!

Outstanding Mark. That picture is a keeper. Any chance you have a high rez version. I'd love to blow it up.

I think MSJ should open up a web-store and have Randy's wife run it .

Heck, I'll run it.

I love that pic, I may have to save that one for my website.

Unfortunately, I could only find the "Carol Anne" photos at low resolution, so the whole thing is low resolution. Randy, PM me your e-mail and I'll send it to you....

Nachos: that there is funny!

Great poster, Mark!

I actually dreamed last night about the gremlin on the airplane from [i}The Twilight Zone: The Movie, and I remember thinking that it was what was causing problems in Randy's system.

Hi JC,
Did you guys have a chance to reproduce the slight drop off in SPL on the EP-500 when left turned on vs restarted? Thanks.

John

Hi ihifi,

We could not. Most likely, it looks like a DSP software glitch. I sent a DSP software to darthkringle to reload his EP500 to see if it would solve his problem. I have not heard back from him. I don't know if he had time to load and test it.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I don't have this problem with my 600. Those with a 500, why don't you just upgrade to what you should have purchased to begin with ?
