I'm planning to replace my television with a front projector, so I'm going to need a place to put my center speaker. I have a beamed ceiling, and I'd like to mount the speaker as close as possible to a beam and flush to the ceiling. I've been unable to find a mount that allows this... does anybody have any great ideas, or am I going to have to try to fabricate a mount? Also, is there any information online about safe locations to put screws into the back of the VP100?

Hi,

Keep any screws 2 inches away from the central binding-post connectors inset into the rear panel and you'll be fine. Use 1/2-inch screws or a little longer if you want. The screws provide their own seal even if they break through the rear panel, which is made of 3/4-inch MDF (actually about 5/8-inch thick).

Regards,

Jason,

This is a link to a picture of some custom mounts I made for my VP 150's, you can easily make the same type for your 100, VP150 ceiling mount

John.

Jason, note in particular that John H.'s very attractive installation is angled downward. If you do something similar, it's desirable to have the VP100 angled down at your ears.

Mikey,

You know I would have to ask my wife where she had them done I don't remeber the name of the guy or the shop. She had seen this style some time back but could not find them again so she had them custom ordered and imported from Italy. They actually are a dark burgundy color but you can order them any color you like. The Sofa was around 7500 and the love seat was around 6k, they are both double recliners and very very comfortable (put you to sleep comfortable).

regards
John.

John,

How much do those tiled floors echo your Axioms around the room? I can imagine that could be very problematic.

Semi, the floors actually are not that much of a problem. When designing the area I had some concerns about the floor and we thought about carpeting but we did not want to do this for 2 reasons. For warmth and comfort the whole floor is heated and using carpeting just does not work with this type of floor. This level is a walk out to the backyard, and with putting in a pool the concerns were the kids tracking in water and dirt all over a carpeted floor so tile became the natural choice. To deal with the reflections I built the room with no rectangular areas, there is only 1 right angle wall at the back of the room and this will be broken by a corner cabinet when I get it finished. The back wall also has an angle that breaks away from 90 at the mid point and so does the side wall up towards the front where I put in the fireplace. The bulk heads all have rounded corners, and also do not continue on straight lines along the whole length. The cabinets I am building for the bar going in at the back all are designed to lessen the reflections by presenting no right angles or direct reflections to the speaker’s positions. Once I have this all done I will use acoustic panels where and if required to make the final adjustments. I was pleasantly surprised at how little echo there is in the room, in the picture does not show the large area rug that was used in front of the couch this made a big difference to the reflections from the 80’s off the floor. With a little time and patience I have been able to work with the shortcomings of having a tile floor.

That's a pretty nice room plan John. Well thought out as thorough as possible given your floor material type.

I ended up using a couple of simple angle brackets. I should have painted them first, but I didn't.
