Hey Guys,

Got a small question for you regarding the QS8's. I was watching 9 tonight and noticed during the movie my left channel QS8 gets this odd "rumbling" noise... this is the best way I can describe it. It happens at different times. After the movie was done I checked if the QS8 was mounted properly to the bracket and it is, nice and tight. I thought it might be the movie so I put on BTILC and there it was again, that little rumbling.

I was wondering if any of you had this problem.

Thanks.

Have you tried swapping the wires at receiver terminals just to make sure it’s the QS8 and not something else in the chain? Next thing you might want to do is play something that rumbles and listen to see if you can localize where it’s coming from on/in the speaker. Also I’d email Axiom since if anyone has heard of a problem with their speakers it’s them.

Can't say I have ever heard any rumbling noises from my QS8s, other than anything that should be coming from them. maybe pull a driver and check to make sure there are no loose wires etc. Something could be vibrating internally causing the noise.

Good idea, Ill try that tomorrow... I figured i'd ask you pro's first since your all using these QS8's. Ill most likely contact them if I can't find whats causing this.

Would doing this void the Axiom warranty ?

No, removing a driver will not void the warranty. If you call them, they will surely ask you to do it. So, if you want to be sure go that route.

It’s doubtful just pulling a driver to check it out would void the warranty, but if you‘re contacting them anyway might as well ask. I would give it a listen close up just to see if you can hear where the problem is coming from. If it’s a bad driver they will probably just send you a new one that’s what happened when the dust cap on one of my M22’s drivers came loose. Or it could be something loose inside. I’d also listen to it off the wall. Just because it feels secure doesn’t mean it couldn’t still be vibrating against the wall.

I can't imagine a QS8 going low enough to "rumble". If it's some mid-bass stuff localized to your QS8 but with a deep bass component, that sounds like it would likely be coming from the soundtrack.

A rumble could be an indication of incorrect configuration. If your rear speakers are set to "large" (or "full-band" depending on your receiver brand), they may have been trying to reproduce something too low for them.

that is correct, but why would that only affect one surround, the bass management would apply to the other channel as well...

Not all speakers from the same model are identical. I had similar situations in the past (experimenting with settings) and out of their normal range, speakers don't always react the exact same way.

All speakers are set to small, but ill check again in case somehting might have changed. Ill put on another movie in a short while and see what happens...

Well I got a reply back from Brent...

He suggests that I try tightening each driver a 1/4 turn which may solve the issue.

Ill try it and see what happens.

that makes some senses, the drivers have to be pretty snug not to allow air to escape. This is very true with subwoofers...

I finally got around to tightening each driver this week-end. I hardly needed to tight them up at all... all screws where very snug. Once done I put on the same movie again and all was good... that "rumbling" noise was gone. So alls good!! \:\)

thanks for the input guys.
