I am planning to upgrade my receiver as well as my speakers, but I don't have the money to do both at the same time. Just don't know if my receiver can handle the M-80s. I figure I might as well enjoy my new speakers till I get my new receiver if I can. I'm just worried about damaging the speakers. Any help?
Hi Steve, and welcome as member number 8000!
I run my M80s with a Harman/Kardon AVR-525, which is a few generations older than your 247, and they work just fine. As long as you're not in a very large room or pushing high volumes (>90 dB?), it should be just fine. My 525 is rated at 75wpc, if that helps.
Awesome. Thanks. This is the best forum I've ever posted to. I have friend who bought the m-80s and loved them, so I bought a vp150, as I needed a new center. Loved it and wanted to upgrade my L/Rs. I just wasn't to comfortable with having a 6 ohm center and two 4 ohm mains. haven't ever dealt with anything besides 8 ohm stuff. Not really a newb, just a newb to higher end stuff I guess. Thanks again, I'm sure I will be posting more later.
Steve, welcome. The same answer always applies to this type of question: any modern HT receiver in good condirion can "handle" the M80s unless you play them at a dangerously loud sound level. The 247 won't know about the 4 ohm rating if you don't tell it.
Hi Steve - you should not have any issues driving the M80 with you HK - I'm currently available at the toll free number 1.866.244.8796 - we can chat further.
don't do it Steve, Brent will talk you into buying more Axiom products, arr arr arrr
I have the same question but a different receiver.
My receiver is an Onkyo TX-NR801
I've heard that some Onkyo receivers don't work well with the M80s.
PS- My audiobyte speakers should be arriving tomorrow--I'm excited!
Andy, welcome. Same question, same answer.
Thank you John. That's what I wanted to hear!
IF memory serves, those Pioneer speakers are a pretty good sounding speaker. I would bump the Bose out of surround duty and get some QS8s as my first Axiom purchase(I had 201's as mains before my foray into Axiomland
) and I would also pick up a sub like an EP350 or EP500.
